“Wow, what a difference 6 weeks makes!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 November 2011

After visiting the island in July we couldn't get enough, so we visited the island again in September. We were surprised at the changes from last time and the difference was only six weeks! The family rooms had been completely made over with a new balcony, linen, fresh towels and toiletries. There were new dances and costumes.
As before we were welcomed into the family that is Robinson Crusoe. My girls and I were embraced into the culture, with Jess being a special guest in the shows. It was certainly an experience that she will never forget.
Our purpose for this trip was to deliver books to a local school that we were introduced to last time. The staff at RC made this mission the most amazing experience of our lives handling all the details on the Fiji end with total love and care. Vinaka Vaka Levu.
I fully recommend the island to anyone wanting a week or even a day of Fijian culture. We can't wait to get back.

Room Tip: Families will love the Island Lodges, sleeping 4 in the room.

Our family went to Robinson Crusoe Island for the Fiji culture show and we were dissappointed with the value for money we recieved. The food compared to other shows and culture events we have attended was poor and a very limited choice. Charging for soft drinks and water was also surprising, the hostess was unprofessional and failed to engage the clients. The standard of the show was inconsistent apart from the fire dancing which managed to engage the crowd. Then after the show they could not get rid of the customers quick enough,

Fiji is a wonderfull country to visit but Robinson Crusoe Island is not worth the trip, visit real villages instead of this money making show

I am sorry this guest feels this way as most other guests enjoy our full program of activities that start as soon as you reach our beautiful shores our staff proud of our 1 and 1/2 hour show. The Lovo lunch is served fresh using the best produce Fiji has to offer & all our ham, pork, chicken & beef are from our own butcher shop (we also supply many 5 star hotels in Fiji) our fish & quality veges from our local suppliers in regards charging for soft drinks & bottled water we are 1/2 the price of most hotels and we are an island so transport is a big issue so we can not offer them free . We also offer village visits as part of our tours & i agree is great experience one again i am sorry this guest did not enjoy our day

We have sailed across the Pacific Ocean and seen fire and dance shows (we love them) in very many resorts and countries. The show at Robinson Crusoe was by far the most entertaining we have seen. We ended up anchoring off the island for two weeks and in that time gained a new family who we sorely miss. The staff were great to get on with and soon we were all on first name terms. Big thanks to Latu for making my wife look so beautiful in her Fiji costume and thanks to the whole crew for persuading us to join in the show and dance a couple of numbers. In all our travels we have never experienced anything like this. We left part of our hearts behind and we will be back next year. Our love to you all.

My sister and I recently stayed at the Robinson Crusoe Island - the island is beautiful and the staff could not be friendlier or more helpful. The island really embraces Fijian culture and there are plenty of activities. My only problem really was lack of vegetarian food, and maybe the night time activities were a bit pushy with the Kava ceremony but aside from that we had a great time. I would recommend a 1-2 night stay here.

We would def recommend staying here for a couple nights – make sure to book when they have an evening culture show (preferably staying over night after the show).

Accommodation - Book a lodge room, it’s worth it. These rooms have hot water regular showers (other rooms are shared facilities with cold/tepid water bucket showers) and the rooms have just been revamped so are quite nice. They’re like nice cabins..

Owners - are lovely, they really do try and get around to all their guests to say hello – which gives it that personal touch. You won’t get that on Denarau, that’s for sure! Wayne made an extra effort with us which was really nice, as they were building a deck off our room during our stay.

Food - is simple yet very tasty, and there’s plenty of it. The owner’s son is a chef who apparently comes in regularly to revamp the menus. They also own the main butchers in Fiji so the meat is very good quality

Drinks - prices are fairly standard, with $1 off at happy hour. During the day try the coconut cocktail which is white rum/coconut liqueur poured into a green coconut.. Yum. But give them a bit of a heads up that you’re keen on the cocktail as one of the staff will need to climb a tree to get the coconut..

Our stay was very quiet and low key which was nice. At one point it seemed like we had the whole island to ourselves!

Culture show - is by far the best we’ve seen in Fiji. Note that if you leave immediately after the night show, you’ll have an interesting boat ride back up the river! It also takes awhile to get back to your hotel by bus if you’re in Nadi as there are a number of hotel stops to drop off the many guests that attend the culture shows.

Staff - are very lovely and entertaining, and also quite easy on the eye.. single ladies take note 

Weather wise - It rained once for about ½ hour, the rest of our stay was stunning. We avoided the sun for most of the day as was sooo hot, but still ended up getting really tanned somehow! We got 1 good sunset photo opp too which was a bonus 

Creepy crawlies etc – they spray on the island so mozzies and bugs weren’t really a problem for us. They have Mortein in the rooms if needed, bring bug repellent for peace of mind.

Generator – gets switched off around midnight so if you’re planning on being up after that then make sure you have a small torch or some light source (cell phone is handy). They turn it off so it’s quiet on the island – which is quite nice as you can hear the waves crashing on the outer reef and also on the beach (that is if your neighbour isn’t giggling all night! LOL)

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights/3 full days at the end of Aug 2011 after a few nights at a wedding on Denarau. In hindsight we perhaps should have done it the other way around? Debate-able.
I'd definitely recommend getting off the mainland (yes that includes Denarau!) when coming to Fiji - it makes a big difference, trust me! Wayne mentioned a package they’re looking into which includes 2 nights RCI, 2 nights Yasawas with 1 night either side at Smugglers – sounds pretty good, ask them about it.

Thanks Wayne for the ‘real Fiji experience’ – good times!

Room Tip: Book a lodge room, it's worth it.

RCI is situated on a very small private island and the resort is on the west side, which is sheltered from the wind, and gets the beautiful sunsets!

Accommodation: We stayed in a 3 bed bure for 3 nights. It is basic: cold showers, fans but comfortable beds and secure. I would advise asking to be in a bure away from the generator, which starts up at 7am, so don't expect to sleep in!

Food: Pretty good and plentiful, basic buffet style. The lovo on our final night was very good.

Staff: Amazing! Everyone says hi and makes the effort to know your name and talk to you. Felt very much at home here.

Activities: Very good value! Most activities are free – snorkelling, kayak, massage, volleyball, sea biscuit, crab racing, kava ceremony, games, walks etc and watching the boys climb coconut trees to get you fresh coconut!. Nice swimming pool too.

Don’t miss the Island dancing/fire dancing, which we saw on a Saturday night. These boys and girls are incredible, probably the best island show I have ever seen. They are known around Fiji for their talent and their amazing physiques!

Take a torch, as the generator switches off at midnight, leaving it dark apart from a few lamps around the pathways.

Suitable for groups and backpackers but families and couples were having fun too, definitely something for everyone. It has a great social atmosphere, but is not a ‘party’ island (unless you want it to be!)

I highly recommend staying here if you are looking for a ‘real’ Fiji experience. Relax and let yourself be a part of RCI family.

Room Tip: Rooms are simple. Ask to be away from the generator as it's quite noisy.
