“Fabulous trip to a by gone era!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 June 2014

My wife and I spent the weekend at the Elms for a getaway - and it is hard to imagine better place to do this.

We both were pampered in the Spa and also enjoyed the incredible Grotto!

The Staff was very nice and very professional.

The rooms are spacious and clean and state of the art.

We were on the 5th floor which included a 5:00 reception with drinks and Appetizers from the 5th floor lounge which has a great view of Excelsior Springs!

Before dinner we walked the grounds which were very nice and then we had dinner at their restaurant. We had the Kansas City Strip AND IT WAS PERFECT.

We were there on a Monday Tuesday which was very nice because the hotel was quiet and made for the perfect place to relax and get away from our busy schedule.

We highly recommend the Elms to all of our friends looking for a relaxing hiatus.

A girlfriend and I wanted to find a great hotel with a spa for a girls weekend to get away from it all. We struck gold with The Elms Hotel and Spa. We stayed on a Thursday - Saturday in May and it was amazing! If you are looking something close to Kansas City you can't miss this fabulous hidden gem.

Hotel:
The hotel has the perfect mix of old world charm and modern updates. If you like historical places you will love this and the great thing is they did a multi million dollar upgrade and covered all the details. There is a great pool and a hot tub outside. There is also a heated lap pool and hot tub on lowest floor of the hotel. The workout facility was simple but seemed to have everything one would need. Staff was very friendly. They have great reception rooms and as I understand it... many weddings are done on site. There were three on the weekend after we departed. Rooms were very modern and comfortable. Bed was great. We had a pool side view from the 4th floor and it was great. There is a cool pathway behind the hotel that walks back past a giant gazebo. There is a sand vollyball pit, a place for a group fire pit if you had a group event, a small creek, and even an herb garden where the restaurant grows their own herbs. The area around the hotel is great to walk around and look at. It has a lot of historical charm as well.

Food:
There is a great restaurant on site. We ate both breakfast and dinner there. Breakfast/Coffee is great on the outdoor covered veranda overlooking the front of the hotel. The food was great and reasonably priced. The menu had a lot of variety and things I was surprised to see for a smaller town. Dinner is a little more formal and its a great place for a romantic dinner. There is an upstairs seating area where you can look out large windows. Great wine list.

Spa:
Oh wow! Don't miss out on the spa. This one is a true spa complete with a Grotto which offers the hot tub, steam shower, sauna, steam room, and cold shower. You get access to all of this with a spa service. They have lockers and showers as well as fabulous robes for you to wear during your services.

The Downtown:
There are some great shops and eating places in the downtown area which is a short walk from the hotel. We ate at Ventana for lunch and it was amazing. Loved the ambiance in the place and don't skip the cheesecake. We also tried the Willow Spring Mercantile. It was great as well. Nice selection of Missouri Wines. Food tasted good. There are also some artsy shops. We especially loved the Mind, Body, and Soap Company. We bought some wonderful soaps and bath salts that allowed us to take the spa smell home with us.

We didn't have time to venture out much farther but I believe we saw most of what there was to see. If you want a place to get away from it all then this is your place. I could have stayed a couple more days and I will definitely be back!

We loved most things about the Elms. It is a wonderful place, but you need to know a few things

I had heard it gets busy during the weekend with events so we went on a weeknight. However beware, the hours, and the openings are different on the weekdays. The tavern and the spa and the kitchen close at nine pm. We came in from the pool and almost missed dinner and definitely missed the tavern.

It feels like a place you have to go a long ways to experience yet is close by. The staff were absolutely great! Tabitha was our server at the 88 and she was awesome and took care of us for dinner and breakfast. The pool and hot tub was great, and you have to go find the european lap pool. It is a gem. The room is beautiful too and the bed very comfortable. However....

The A/C is incredibly loud, and will disrupt your sleep. My wife didn't hardly sleep at all. We either sweated like crazy or had to listen to it shut on and off and on and off. Then you heard the water dripping as well. So weird. Hard to not let that take away from our experience. They did comp our breakfast which was awesome, and the food was really good all around, but when your tired it's tough.

Also, if you can't get scheduled for using the spa (which we couldn't even on a slow day) then the use of the grotto is $55!! That is just way too steep for a hot tub, steam and dry sauna, and comfortable relaxation.

Overall we'd love to return, but they would have to solve the a/c problem. So if you're going, bring your ear plugs and schedule your spa services today.

Room Tip: I liked the room over the pool (253) but the a/c was very loud. I'd ask about the noise level...

My wife and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary here based on the recommendation of a friend. We are glad we did. They took very good care of us. We purchased the Romantic Package which serve our purpose and needs well.

Room Tip: Ensure you ask if there are wedding events booked during your time. Ask for a room away from the re...

Right from the moment we pulled up, we were taken care of. The staff almost fell over themselves to make sure everything was just right. The grotto and outdoor pool was amazing. If you're booking a trip, DON'T FORGET to get a couple's massage.

My boyfriend and I spent an evening here to welcome him back to the states and enjoyed every minute of it! We booked a jacuzzi room with the Romantic Getaway package. The jacuzzi was a little bit of a disappointment due to its size but otherwise the room was above satisfactory. We enjoyed a couples massage the evening we arrived, which was beyond relaxing, especially after spending time in The Grotto. Would recommend a weekend here to anyone looking for a quick, relaxing getaway. We will most certainly be returning.

My lady friend visited from out of town, and my house was a mess, due to a remodeling project, and being a bachelor. I heard that The Elms was a nice hotel, near work in North Kansas City, and gave railroad workers a generous discount. My lady friend and I were very pleasantly surprised by The Elms elegance and grace! The room was very comfortable and quiet, with a nice wooded view out the window. The highlight, though, was the outdoor pool and spa. After a few days, we didn't want to leave!
