We stopped off for one night at this beautiful property on the long drive across France to Spain. The owners have converted a wing of their family farm into a guest house and it's a substantial estate, with an enormous converted barn which they hire for weddings and conferences. The surrounding countryside is rather flat - as our charming hostess, Virginie Midavaine, told us this region is the "grénier de France" - but this domaine is a charming, leafy oasis in the middle of vast fields. The property is contained by walls and has been beautifully and tastefully converted. Our room was a "duplex" with a sitting room and toilet down stairs, looking out onto a pretty terrace and the garden. The bedroom and bathroom are upstairs with three windows offering different views - the huge inner courtyard with the farmhouse, a small picture window over the bed with a view of the fields and horizon beyond and a view of the garden and trees. The decor is neutral and immediately instils a feeling of calm. We slept very well in the comfortable bed and next morning woke up to a lovely breakfast laid out by Virginie in the pretty kitchen/dining area reserved for the guests. We chatted for some time and found the entire experience very welcoming. It's the sort of special place one doesn't forget and we hope to return one day with a bit more time to explore the locale. I'm very happy to be the first person to review this "Maison d'hôte de charme" on Trip Advisor! Please be aware if you decide to visit, Mulsans, the address of the property, is a very small hamlet which doesn't appear on the map (we plugged the co-ordinates into our sat nav, which brought us pretty close) and there are no restaurants or bars within walking distance. It would be difficult to stay here without a car. We travelled into the historical city of Blois - where there are plenty of cafes and restaurants - for an evening meal, which was an easy road and took 15 to 20 mins.
