When you schedule to take this tour, Trudi will give you more information than you can process in one visit. So, you need to do it again. Be sure to go see it during Halloween when it's the HAUNTED Jail! Total fun and very scary!

If you are in or around Gallatin, Missouri this is a must see. great for all ages and represents a time when jails were used for punishment. One of three left in the country. Trudy was a great tour guide with a wealth of information!

This is a treasure in the heart of Gallatin, Mo. This building is only one of three remaining "Squirrel Cage Jails" left in the USA. It is called a squirrel cage because of the circular design and the rotating floor the cells sit on. This allows one person to securely run the jail. The home of the sheriff is attached to the jail for viewing also.

There is information about Jesse James and guns from the period on display also. The woman giving the tours takes great pride in this building and is very knowledgeable about it and the area's history.

Appointments are required for the tours. It was just my husband and I on ours.

This is a very good example of life in the 1890's and well worth the time to visit.
