“Nice place to stay, great location, good breakfast”
Reviewed 18 September 2012

Supposedly the most haunted B & B in Hannibal, the Garden House is in a nice location within walking distance to downtown Hannibal. The inn keeper is very friendly and makes a good breakfast in the morning. My husband and I stayed there two nights with our cat and had a very nice time. They have a video library for viewing movies if you wish in your room-- this helped put us to sleep. Although we didn't experience any ghosts- we had a nice time. The room was clean and the bed comfortable.

Jean is a wonderful hostess and the B & B was delightful. We are former B & B hosts, and we appreciated the comfortable bed and wonderful breakfast. We arrived on a Sunday night and visited the Bistro and had a wonderful dinner visiting with our neighbors at the table next to us. Chris opened up on Monday as well for us so we had two lovely nights of dinner at La Binnah. He is a wonderful chef and worth the trip to Hannibal for that reason alone.

No two bed and breakfasts are alike - that's what makes them all so special. We stayed in the room with the sleigh bed and it was quite comfortable. The home is beautiful, and we're glad they shared it with us. We walked downtown since it is so close and saw more beautiful homes. It's in a lovely area.

Clean but very basic. Shared baths not a problem. Old TV in room, 17 inch, with rabbit ears and converter. Thought WIFI is advertised no signal was available. Probable would not stay here again or recommend.

As we are not a hotel, we are sorry your stay was very "basic". Staying in a historic, private home of 1895, a Queen Anne Victorian is far from basic. TV is not why guests seek out a B&B, as our guests have informed us. Our WIFI is outstanding and is free; if you had trouble logging on, it was not mentioned to us, we would gladly helped you. Thank you for your "conveniently located to historic area" mention. We are but three blocks from downtown and in the Central Park Historic District. Best, Chris

When you first pull up to this lovely B&B, it gives you a bit of pause. The outside is rather random, needs a bit of paint up high, and looks a bit odd. BUT wait until you go inside. It is lovely and the rooms are quite comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Breakfast was especially delicious and the caretaker was quite pleasant. Highly recommend.

Room Tip: We stayed in the South room - very nice. Shares a bath.

When we drove up to Garden House B & B we were dismayed to find that it was a run down Victorian home that had clearly seen better days. The exterior paint was peeling and the garden was full of weeds. The sidewalk was cracked and the stairs were uneven. (To be fair, the weather was extremely warm, so it is likely no one could rectify these issues until the extreme temperatures abated.) Inside, the decor reminds one of a resale shop - the furniture is eclectic at best. The televison did not have a single station that came in clearly. The wireless access was too weak and we could not get our computer devices to work. Our shower had nice hot water, but the enclosure was quite small and the showerhead was so forceful that the spray actually stung! However, the beds were comfortable and the breakfasts were tasty. Jean was friendly and gave us excellent advice about what to see and where to eat. In sum, this B&B was not worth the price.

Comments are priceless. To address an 1896 Queen Anne Victorian home in her description is a bit one sided and reflects her personality I should think. With 100+ degree weather (is not extremely ‘warm’) for weeks on end, plants and outside maintenance is at a standstill. Our gardens are professionally maintained by a Master Gardener. Rain head no adjustment shower heads produce a gentle rain like spray for our guests. Our shower areas are custom designed for the average person. The interior design and furniture are priceless. Our period furniture dates from Pre-Civil War to the mid 1940’s, and two pieces of the Empire Series of the Art Deco period of the 20’s. Our room rates of 89 to 135 are quite reasonable and comparable for any Bed and Breakfast (haven’t increased rates in 5 years), especially with serving a delicious breakfast each morning (many B&B’s have discontinued breakfast).
One our recent guests replied to this sort of comment and said:
““Staying in a bed and breakfast is something like visiting a relative you never met before who owns an old house. Not every B&B is a center-hall colonial set on a New England town green. If you're not prepared to be a bit forgiving, find a Hampton Inn.

Custom-designed stained-glass door transoms with floral designs, a breakfast room surrounded with a cheery hand-painted mural of irises, silk flower bouquets everywhere, Victorian furniture: Garden House has been carefully planned to be charming and cluttered. It's something like a 75-year-old woman who dresses consistent with her age.””
We couldn’t have stated this any better.
Thank you to our 1000’s of travelers that have journeyed and stayed with the Garden House over our nine years of sharing our home, making memories and friends along the way, with many repeat visitors. Proudly Veteran owned and operated.

We had a great time staying at Garden House. Jean (the innkeeper) is extremely friendly & helpful--really enjoyed chatting with her. The breakfasts were quite tasty, and the feather beds very comfortable. The location is great, only about 3 or 4 blocks from the heart of the downtown historic district. We walked everywhere from the inn. Chris, the owner, also has a wonderful restaurant (LaBinnah Bistro), just about a block away. Delish, don't miss it!

my fiance and I went to Hannibal for our first weekend of being engaged and he surprised me by taking me to the Garden House and then to La Binnah for dinner. The food was delicious and the server was a young Turkish guy that knew about every item on the menu. He gave us great recommendations and was very friendly- he congratulated us on the engagement too. The decor of the restaurant was slightly strange but it was a great experience over all. The innkeepers at the Garden House made us very welcome talked through the history of the house and showed us to our room . When we got there it was beautiful but we were surprised that we did not have our own bathroom and as it was a very hot day we also wished it was a slightly cooler temperature in the room. Very comfy bed though and delicious breakfast.
Hannibal was a great time- Tom Sawyers Days provided a lot of action in the downtown including a live show and mud volleyball.

Room Tip: ****get a room with a private bathroom if possible.
