We found this hotel "by accident", as we did not like our previously booked hotel and was looking for an alternative on TripAdvisor while on vacation in Southern France. A very nice surprise. The hotel has nice rooms, excellent service, nice swimming pool and garden at an affordable price (in the Chateau hotel category). The breakfast was plentiful and good. The only downside of the hotel was that they did not have a restaurant offering dinner. However the staff went out of their way to recommend outstanding restaurants within driving distance and to make reservations for us. Overall we had a wonderful two days in this hotel.

We stayed two nights in this lovely hotel and town. Perfect place for a romantic and peacefull "escapade a deux" . The rooms are big with ammenities like lavander bath salts. The swimming pool is suround by a very well kept park with many ancient trees and the view to the town castle. The staff is very friendly. The garden restaurant is the perfect place for brekfast and dinners. Don't forget to try the locale wines.

We spent one night in this hotel, on our way to southern France. We were extremely pleased with the hotel, the beautiful town of Grignan and the sourrounding area. The hotel is set in a wonderful garden with a nice swimming pool. The staff is extremely helpful, flexible and nice. They have a wonderful breakfast buffet with a very large choice of excellent local products,
Our room was on the 2nd/last floor (no elevator as it is an old Manoir). Since it was end of July and the outside temperature had reached 38C, it was very hot during the night and the AC was not powerful enough to cool the room. An extra fan would be welcome. The rooms on the first floor are probably cooler.

Room Tip: Superior rooms are very large. Lower floors probably offer cooler rooms than the second floor.

This was our first stay at Manoir de la Roseraie and, indeed, our first visit to Grignan. Because ours was a short break only, we comfortably made the journey by car from the UK in a single day, arriving at the Manoir by 5.30 in the afternoon. The Manoir sits on the edge of the town in extensive grounds and in the shadow of the Chateau, the walk into town taking little more than 5 minutes. We were made to feel very welcome at the hotel both at the time of our arrival and throughout our stay. The rooms at the hotel are varied in their décor - the 2nd (Top) floor being what we would describe as more modern in style (as an example 'Antheor' on the hotel website) whereas the 1st and Ground floor rooms appear more traditionally 'French' ('Masquerade' and 'Fandango' where we stayed as examples). Be aware, though, that there are a lot of stairs to climb to get to the rooms on the 2nd floor for anyone for whom this might be a consideration.
Although we dined in the hotel restaurant on two out of our five nights stay, there are alternative restaurants in the town. Based on our experience, however, we would probably recommend the hotel restaurant over the alternatives, at least for dinner. For a light salad lunch (washed down with a bottle of Domaine De Grangeneuve Rosé), L'etable on the walk into the town, quickly became a favourite.
For those wishing to venture beyond the immediate confines of Grignan, we would recommend the nearby town of Roussas and a walk up to the Chapelle Saint-Joseph which dominates the town, as well as a visit to the Domaine de Grangeneuve and Chateau Bizard wineries all of which are within a 10 mile radius.
For anyone looking for a tranquil stay in beautiful countryside, we cannot recommend Manoir de la Roseraie, the town of Grignan and the surrounding area highly enough. It is certainly our hope that we will have the opportunity to visit again at some time in the future.

Room Tip: Due to the high ceilings of the rooms on the 1st floor, there are a lot of stairs to climb to reach...

Located in a small park on the edge of the medieval village of Grignan, Manoire de la Roseraie is a well presented upmarket hotel.

We enjoyed the extra space, yet with immediate access to the charm of Grignan

Our standard room (on the second floor) was large and sensitively, but not excessively decorated. We had a pleasant view over the gardens. The room has air conditioning (being under the roof, this will be a must in the summer) and a large bathroom. We have stayed in smaller hotel rooms than the size of the bathroom.

The bathroom is well equipped with toiletries and dressing gowns, but there is no useable shower. The shower head does not attach to the wall, so it is not possible to have a proper shower other than to shower oneself after bathing ~ unless you can one hand shower + one hand soap ~ anyway there is no shower screen.

We also found the 43 steps (no elevator) to the second floor to be useful exercise, but beware if you are less agile.

Nice outdoors, heated swimming pool.

Hotel employees are extremely well trained and helpful. We enjoyed an evening meal at the hotel restaurant ~ La Rotonde. See the separate review.

By all accounts, the rooms in the annex are less good (albeit fewer steps), so be sure of what you are booking.

An enjoyable stay and fair value, but be careful to check rates, which are very much subject to demand. Consider the Marquise package (available online), which is good value.

Room Tip: Avoid annex rooms

A beautifull building just under the castle of Grignan. We had a room on the second floor with a view on the castle. The room was impeccable, nicely decorated with a very large bathroom.
The dining room is located in a very nicely designed conservatory facing the park. We took the least expensive menu (€ 28) and enjoyed our dinner very much.

Because we were invited to a wedding party close to Grignan, we looked for a nice hotel in that area. After consulting many websites and tripadvisor, we decided to book 4 nights at La Roseraie, by far the most expensive hotel on our list.

First contacts by mail were very promising; we even received some pictures of our room, which was a junior suite in the annexe just a few metres away from the main building.
We had high expectations, moreover because of the price of the room: 375 euros, normally without breakfast, but as an exception and gesture, breakfast was included in the roomprice.

We arrived in the early evening and we were shown to our room. The receptionist only showed us the room, without any further explanation about amenities etc. We were not asked if we needed any help with the luggage.

The room was spacious, but the decoration/furniture was absolutely not in line with the high roomprice. The curtain was sligtly torn, the bedsidelamps were discoloured. It all looked a bit tacky. A very spacious bathroom, with bath, separate shower and double sink. There als was a small walk-in closet with a safe and a stocked mini bar. However: Some cloth-hangers were broken, or were so thight to the rail, that they could not be moved.

We made reservations in the restaurant for the first night, and again we were somewhat disappointed. The maitre d' had so much interest in a group of 6 guests at another table that he forgot about us (and other guests). He was not very helpful in explaining the menu; he leaned on the chair while talking to us: He looked very much out of caracter and time and his behaviour was snobby and arrogant. The young servers however were absolutely top and eager to please the guests. The quality of the food was not as we expected; not bad, but average.

When we returned to our room, we found out that turn down service consisted of putting a piece of nougat on the pillow, switching on the lights and drawing the curtains. The wastebaskets were not emptied and the (wet) towels were still in the bathtub -to be changed- were we left them. We thought that that was probably because of our rather late check-in.
The bedside lamp was flickering and two other lampbulbs were broken.

Breakfast is buffet style continental. Juices not fresh and a very small fruitsalad, more like a fruit-soup. All in all ok: We are not big breakfast eaters, but again I can imagine that 20 euros per person is very expensive and overpriced for what you're getting: Some bread, jams, brioches, two types of cold cuts and cheese and some packaged cheese-spread.
There are some very nice bakeries in the village, buy some pain raisin and croissants and a cup of coffee and that will cost you less than 5 euros!

The hotelgrounds are beautiful and there is a nice swimmingpool.

There is no WiFi throughout the hotel, only in the lounge on the first floor. In our room there was no signal for the mobile phone: We had to step outside to make a call.

Reception staff was very nice and courteous. They gave us information about the area and tried to do our best to make us comfortable.

The second and third night again there was no proper turn down service: We felt very disappointed to return to our room, only to find the curtains drawn and a mint on our pillow. If you pay so much money, certainly compared to other hotels in the area, you expect a flawless service.
The three lightbulbs were still broken and I disconnected them.
After complaining to the front desk, the last night our wastebaskets were emptied and we received clean (and dry) towels, finally! The lampbulbs were finally replaced.

Of course I can not speak for the rooms in the main building: Looking at the pictures on the website, they seem much more in style with a country house manor than our room in the outbuilding.
But overall: For such a high roomprice compared to other hotels in that area, you only expect the very best and that goes for decoration but also for a full service with clean and dry towels in the evening!

Many people/friends attending the wedding stayed in the Grignan area and we compared prices and service. The Roseraie was by far the most expensive hotel (at least our room) with the most incomplete service (read: no clean towels in the evening, no WiFi throughout the hotel etc).
Price of the breakfast buffet is too high for what is offered and even a glass of (local) wine costs 14 euros!
Costs have been saved on room decoration. A pity, because the Manoir is very nicely situated with extensive grounds, within walking distance of the lovely village of Grignan.

In our opinion: This is absolutely not a 4* hotel!

Dear guests,
Thank you for giving us your opinion about Tripadvisor as it is very important for us.
Actually it is a return of our guests’ opinion and, as such, we are willing to answer as well as find solutions in case of any problem that could depreciate our image.
You have chosen our hotel thanks to Tripadvisor because of a great number of positive opinions, obviously because we have been awarded, for three years now, as the best hotel and restaurant in Grignan and second best place in Drôme just behind PIC restaurant in Valence. Our opinions quantity is significant, we have no connivance text, under checking by Tripadvisor arbitrators we don’t know , neither other hotel managers do.
We have neither particular relationship with Atout France nor with the persons who , for this new ranking, have awarded us with four stars. This introduction just to answer your objection particularly concerning the price which is apparently what shocked you most in your stay. Indeed you have compared prices with your friends who were accommodated in other hotels or guest houses in our region on the occasion of the same wedding and, surprisingly, the Manoir de la Roseraie is more expensive than their own accommodation.
You had booked your stay on the same price basis and never said it was too high.
You charge us with a great number of bad points which will probably have an impact on travellers who will read about them, and of course particularly people from the same origin as yours who will blindly trust your judgment.
We pray all these persons to read carefully the other opinions, and not to take into account this ill feeling of having paid too much for a bill when friends would have made “a good bargain” in other places !
All reasons could be justified if not exaggerated and uncompromising.
We are sorry for not giving you satisfaction with free breakfasts during your whole stay.
Indeed our receptionist may not have offered her help although we always offer our guests to help with their luggage, but this mistake could be excused knowing that your bedroom was on the ground floor opening on the garden, a few meters from the car-park.
As for the bedroom decoration, you had previously asked for pictures of it and you had chosen it.
After checking your stay file, in order to deal with your complaints, and after carefully checking your order at the restaurant, you state that the menu was not detailed by our butler, what is very surprising as one of your starters and one of your main courses were not on the menu and have been changed according to your demand.
The glass of wine from our region is not charged 14 euros but 5 euros, our wine glasses at 14 euros are from other regions like the Sauternes for example.
Towels are changed once a day for every guest but we don’t change them after each use of course according to the environment agreement, but we have changed them , during your whole stay,
after your demand, which, by the way, was not always respectful towards the persons in charge with this service, anyway they have fulfilled their duties as we always do to satisfy our customers.
We respect your feeling but refuse your judgment which is only yours concerning our ranking as a four stars establishment.
Thank you for coming at the Manoir de la Roseraie,
Yours sincerely
