“Good...but the same good as the last time”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 September 2013 via mobile

Ok, the food certainly is good, except for the bruschetta...just need getting the filo pastry...
However....the menu seriously needs to change. It has been the same for about 3 years now and I won't be going back until it does.

“Great quality food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 August 2013

For a small town, this is a great restaurant. Fantastic flavours, bordering on fine dining. Only drawback was a longish wait for the first course and we had to ask the waiter for a drink. Hotel nicely decorated but ask for a room not facing the noisy street. Breakfast was so disappointing compared to the dinner. No choice of juice, had to ask for yoghurt and the Ulster fry was very unimaginative.

“Disappointing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 August 2013

There are many ways to judge a restaurant; first impressions, seating arrangements, ambience, service, quality of food, cleanliness, value for money etc.
First impressions in Apparo were mediocre - the restaurant manager couldn't find our booking because he hadn't his glasses! Not good. So we were made to hover at the entrance until the waitress pointed to our reservation in the book he was holding, and showed us to our table.
Our waitress handed out the menus, was polite and friendly and brought water and glasses promptly. She returned to take our order.
Then for the drinks order: we asked what beers were available. The manager listed a few and then added - they are beers aren't they?
A restaurant owner/publican who doesn't know which drinks are beers?

Overall the food was just average. Starters were fine, but one of the main dishes had to be sent back as it was much too salty - tasted and agreed by all four of us at the table.
However, the manager didn't agree and insisted on standing at our table remonstrating, saying that he tasted it and didn't find it faulty!
I felt embarrassed by this man's behaviour.

Would I try this restaurant again? Probably not.

Brilliant. from start to finish. a hidden gem that needs checked out. From the outside one would never expect what awaited us inside.

“An unexpected pleasure”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 July 2013

We had previously called in at this restaurant for coffee on our way through the small town of Draperstown at the entrance to the scenic area of the Sperrin Mountains. Apparo is a cheerful small restaurant with friendly and helpful staff. On this visit, also en passant, we had a two-course meal which was all freshly cooked, well presented and tasty. This restaurant adds greatly to the culinary attractiveness of the town and makes an excellent start or end to a drive through one of Northern Irelands attractive, if less well known, regions.
