We stayed at HDLC in January 2014. We went with some friends who had stayed there before and were planning to go again, so we agreed to vacation together. We had heard very good things about the Bed & Breakfast and were looking to a little warm weather. The stayed turned out to be better than we imagined. The rooms were large, open and comfortable, the meals were fantastic, and Steve's margaritas were perfect. We liked the location, a little ways out of town so that it felt quiet and secluded, but close enough to walk into town for dinner or shopping. The local beaches were amazing and we had them to ourselves, unlike the busy beaches in town. Steve and Terri provided us with local information and history and we felt almost like family during our 6 night stay. We are already starting to plan our next trip to Hacienda de la Costa.

Room Tip: We looked at all the rooms and they are all different. We would be comfortable in any of the rooms...

We stayed here in november and december of 2013. One of the best trips we ever have had. Terri and Steve were key players in that. From the filling and delicious breakfast to every detail thought of to make your stay perfect. Our only two regret s is that we didnt stay longer and didnt get a chance for one of terris famous dinners. The rooms are spacious and tastfully decorated and beds were comfy. You wake to stunning views and a peaceful vibe. WE WILL RETURN!!!

Terri and Steve are a perfect example of hosts that go above and beyond for their guests.
We stayed 17 days at the Hacienda de la Costa and were threatening Steve and Terri that we were not going to leave.
Terri is an amazing chef and also an incredible wealth of information and help. The breakfasts were very well put together and oh, so flavourful. Terri was also very accommodating for specific dietary needs.
Steve is also a wealth of knowledge and helps in every way possible to make your stay as interesting and fulfilling as you want.
One of the great bonuses for us was that Steve and Terri have the hugest hearts which is exhibited by the other wonderful fur hosts that help run this B & B. Shell, tripod, Millie and Peso gave us our animal fix on a daily basis. They were also a great topic of conversation, trying to determine what escapades were in store for the day.
Our suite was fully equipped with everything you needed for a longer stay. It was soooo well kept, clean and well decorated. It felt like home. The staff are very unobtrusive, respectful and hardworking. They too make the stay a great experience.
The noises from all of the various animals remind you that you are not in the city. The walk into town is a great way to make sure you get a good amount of exercise while you are there. Good walking shoes are a must.
The local beaches are very quiet and peaceful and a reasonable walk from the Hacienda. Steve and Terri provide everything you need for a day at the beach. Boogie boards, towels, coolers and umbrellas.
When you are back from a busy day, they offer a great honour bar. During the week they offer a few evening dinners which are very delicious and satisfying.again Terri's cooking skills shine.
We met so many interesting people during our stay and will likely stay in touch in the future to reconnect and have more fun.
The Hacienda de la Costa is definitely a must stay for adults that need a break from the day to day busyness of life. The hosts have created a heavenly spot in the jungle that needs to be experienced.
Thank you Steve and Terri, you are gems in the jungle and thanks Shell Tripod, Millie and Peso you made our stay even more special.

We stayed at Hacienda de la Costa in both Feb & Dec of 2013 We are scheduled to return Feb 2014. Needless to say we love the relaxing & laid back environment. The property is situated in the jungle which makes for an absolutely beautiful setting close to 2 gorgeous sandy beaches and a walk just far enough from town that you get some exercise.
The owners of the property are friendly, entertaining and extremely helpful. From helping to arrange our transportation, providing an abundance of helpful info about the resort and surrounding area to preparing wonderful breakfasts every day, we were totally appreciative of the time and effort made on their part to ensure we had a memorable and enjoyable vacation.
The premises were very well maintained, rooms were very clean and we just enjoy the overall relaxing atmosphere.
We stayed at 3 other places in the area & needless to say this is by far our favourite, hence we are returning a 3rd time!!
I cannot recommend this B7B enough. I have told family and friends about it and am certain we will be returning for years to come. If you want a low key, relaxing vacation, and don't mind cooking for yourself or eating out a few nights a week, then you cannot go wrong here. I must add that Terri does make supper 2 nights a week and those meals are definitely on par with any restaurant you could eat at in town as she is a great cook in my books and I am a bit of a food snob!!
Terri & Steve have created something truly wonderful and should be very proud! I know I would be.

For our first solo vacation together, my boyfriend and I decided to take friends' advice and find a place outside Puerto Vallarta.

After searching around and doing my homework, I landed on Hacienda de la Costa, which I liked because:

1) It was small, private and for adults (5 rooms, 21+ only, 10 people total)
2) It was located outside the main city of Sayulita (we wanted to be surrounded by nature as much as possible)
3) The price was right (the room, the property, the company, our hosts and their pets, location, the VIEW and DELICIOUS free breakfasts made this worth well more than what we paid)

We weren't disappointed when we showed up. What you see in the pictures IS what you get - and then some. Steve and Terri are amazing, welcoming, accommodating hosts who helped make our stay special.

Yes - be aware that the property is located 2 miles from town, through the jungle and up narrow cobblestone and dirt roads. If you don't want to walk the 35-45 minute journey each way, or spend $15 each way on a cab, don't stay here. However, it wasn't a big issue for us - the walk was beautiful.

You also have access to two semi-private beaches, which are awesome and much more low key than the beaches in Sayulita proper.

Don't hesitate to stay here - if we're ever back in Sayulita, this is where we're staying. Highest recommendation.

Room Tip: We stayed in La Vista - the top floor room with multiple balconies and an amazing view.

This B and B is truly beautiful! It not only boasts stunning views, wonderfully decorated and maintained grounds, but the hosts are very welcoming and the food is fantastic! We spent a very relaxing 6 days here and the jungle sights and sounds were a nice contrast to the hustle of Sayulita. My only caution is that if you want to get into Sayulita every day, you will face a 35-45 minute walk one way. It is a lovely little hike, but is difficult to navigate in the dark... bring headlamps or plan on spending $15 for a taxi. Beach access also requires a bit of a hike, but the closest beaches are far more secluded than what you will find in Sayulita.

Room Tip: We stayed in La Palma- This room was amazing and had a beautiful ocean view. I think La Vista is th...

Spending time at Hacienda de la Costa was truly a lovely experience, so much so that we actually left another hotel that we went to stay at after our time at Hacienda, and went back. The property is gorgeous. The whole experience was really relaxing, and Terri and Steve are excellent hosts. Would go back again in a heartbeat.
