“A true gem!”
Reviewed 22 January 2014

What a find! Eden Beach Hacienda is a boutique hotel nestled in the center of Manzanillo Bay, just north of Troncones, Mexico. The ambiance is relaxed, coastal Mexico. Eden has a variety of accommodations including suites, rooms, and bungalows. For years my wife and I have stayed in a bungalow. While all rooms enjoy easy beach access and are all well appointed, we are particularly fond of the bungalow’s secluded open-air showers. What a treat to rinse while gazing at the sky through palm trees fronds.
Should you choose to stay put your entire time there…no problem; there is an on-site restaurant with an unobstructed ocean view. Troncones is a few miles south (a quick cab ride back and forth for about eight dollars) and it has a variety of restaurants. Just north of the Hacienda is the small fishing village of Majaha. Many nights we’d find our selves strolling the half mile there to enjoy the local fare…red snapper, octopus, and shrimp. From sea to plate a journey less than twenty yards!
If you wish to be indolent and do nothing it’s a fine choice to loll away the day reading and napping to the surf gentle cadence. There’s a rimless pool for those who don’t find swimming in the ocean appealing. If you’re a birder an early morning walk will be amply rewarded. It’s not unusual to spot fifty to sixty varieties within just a few hours. There are tide pools to explore, surfing and kayaking for the more adventurous. Costal boat trip can be arranged with ease.
The owners, Jim and Eva, live on site. They’ve anticipated most every wish and those they haven’t are graciously accommodated. Massages and pedicures can be arranged for very reasonable rates. Free Wi-Fi allows contact with the outside world for those who wish to stay connected, and a serene atmosphere for those who don’t.
If you’re looking for the high-rise-tower, all-you-can-eat-drinks-included experience I wouldn’t recommend the Hacienda, but if you get it…you get it!

We first came upon the Eden way back in 1997 when they first opened and fell in love with the place! We then made the pilgrimage with our young son for the following 5 years until he was off on his own. We would have continued staying here except we got the traveling bug and spent the next 10 years going to other countries. Sitting at home in Alaska enduring yet another winter I said to my wife that I need a warm place to chill and the first place off both our lips was the Eden! So after 10 years we came back and found Jim and Eva as personable as ever and the hotel better than ever with the addition of a tastefully constructed pool and a beach to die for. I'd continue coming here every year if it weren't for the wanderlust I've been stricken with!

Room Tip: I think rooms 1-6 are the best. Great view and hammocks on every porch!

If you are looking for a totally relaxing vacation, this is the place. Eden is on a beautiful, swimming beach and also has a gorgeous pool . There is abundant wildlife - birds, whales, porpoises, turtles. The accommodations are so comfortable, accented with perfect Mexican touches. The staff is wonderful. Hosts Jim and Eva have thought of everything. We just got back from our 5th year in a row. Eden feels like our home away from home. My only regret is that we didn't discover this place sooner! Eden is aptly named.

My husband and I went to Troncones for a friend's wedding and chose Hacienda Eden, not really based on anything other than location and convenience. Boy were we in for a nice surprise. Amazing breakfasts, well really any meal was fabulous at Jardin de Eden! The hosts and guests could not have been more friendly (thank you Eva and Jim) and the location was amazing. Best beach spot we saw in Troncones, lovely pool, nice chairs or hammocks in the sun or shade. We stayed in a bungalow and I was worried about no ac and bugs. Neither were an issue. So laid back and relaxing. We will definitely be back! I would bring friends, couples or families, they have a fabulous salsa night with a great band Saturdays and I believe a taco cook off Fridays. It's the place to be and the best food probably in all of Troncones. So fresh and delicious. I can't wait to go back.... did I say that already? ;-)

Room Tip: A/C not really necessary unless you are going to bed super early - it might still be a little hot. B...

We started coming to Troncones when it was just a dirt road from the highway in the '90s but had always stayed overnight elsewhere.

We have just returned from our stay at Eden and could have stayed there forever. Jim and Eva are amazing hosts, their staff is friendly, and the accommodations are perfect for beachfront living. Jean Pascal does a terrific job with the restaurant and his staff is equally engaging.

We look forward to visiting again soon!

Suggestion - Being from California, we are quite spoiled with the smoke free environment in public areas. Thankfully we only experienced a few guests that smoked during our stay. Perhaps designating a specific "smoking area" would do the trick???

Loved our stay here! Our hosts, Jim and Eva were very helpful in every way. Jean Pascal runs the restaurant and does a great job with the menu. Food was great and the staff friendly. Our little bungalow was comfortably snug and overlooked the infinity pool and the beach. This truly is our idea of Eden. Perfect!

I have stayed here 8 times. Why:
beautiful—it is as nice as the pictures, consistently
uncrowded—there are no big hotels within many miles
friendly, peaceful—you can mingle with other guests or not
english-speaking reasonably understood
really warm ocean, sometimes fun body surfing and boogie boarding
great food—local ingredients creatively prepared, best in the area
cheap—the airfare is the only potentially big expense
slow-paced—surfing is common (though not right from Eden beach) and snorkeling, kayaking and horseback riding are possible but we do nothing and like it
remote—drive to city for shopping or hospital but only half hour with the new highway
hot—it is at 17 degrees latitude; the sun tans you through the beach umbrellas
pool--just added this year, the infinity edge pool is a great addition
hosts--jim and eva are attentive, caring, on premises owners

Caveats. Not an issue for me and my family, but reality:
undrinkable water—bottled for everything
malaria?—Mexico supposedly has it but I’ve seen very few mosquitoes here regardless
book early—we’re not the only ones who reserve far in advance

Room Tip: There are no "bad" rooms, just options. Bungalows are closest to the beach (literally a f...
