Quinta D'Liz was almost everything we were looking for when we booked our vacation. We rented the large house, although they also have small casitas, with a bed and bathroom. The house was $100 per night and worth it as it gave us a full kitchen, and plenty of room to relax. Maria (our hostess) was wonderful and kept the house very clean. The bed was extremely comfortable, with excellent quality bedding and mosquito netting (although was not really necessary as mosquitos were not a problem at this time), and the sound of crashing waves made for some excellent nights of sleep. The only drawback was the lack of hot water, playing in the ocean and having to try and rid yourself of sand was not fun with cold water. It was a very short walk up the beach or road to some of the best (and cheapest) drinks and meals we have ever had. La Burro Burracho had live entertainment on Friday and Sunday. There were several small street "restaurants" (several small tables, set up under a roof) that had some excellent. truly authentic mexican dishes and wonderful marrgaritas. For 200 pesos ($20) Scott was able to go horseback riding on the beach for an hour. Internet Access was available - but not in the house, just out at the central table under the palapa. We would definately go back to Troncones and, if they got hot water - would go back to Quinta D'Liz.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay in Troncones. I was so very excited about Quinta d'Liz--the photos looked delightful. The reality didn't quite hold up to my expectations--and perhaps my expectatons were too high for $50/night accomodations . One of the previous reviewers called it "elegant"; I would say "spare" is a more appropriate choice. While lovely, this is very basic accomodations. Each of the six bungalows is a concrete circle, small, with only room for a full-sized bed and an armoire. There is a divider across the back of the circle, with the bathroom behind it. There are several windows (3?) with wooden blinds, and the door is also made of wooden blinds--and has no lock!. No chair, no bedside table, no art on the walls, nada. There is a concrete bench outside, a hammock in front of each door, a wooden table for all the bungalows to share (coffee and toast is served there at 9 each morning), and one lounge chair. The whole place is immaculately clean and well-kept--with good quality linens and the best towels I have seen in Mexico. The bed was a bit hard for my tastes but that is a personal preference. There is no hot water but cool showers were welcome. I asked Maria, the manager, about locks for the door or a safe, and she said that they weren't needed--she was always there. That isn't quite true--she isn't always there, but conversations with other guests indicated no history or concerns about theft. And our belongings were fine. I think I most missed a place to set my purse, or my book, or my water bottle. Or a place besides the bed to rest when I had a touch of "la tourista" and didn't want to keep my partner awake. On the plus side, you can hear the ocean roar outside your door--and it is magnificent. I think with some additional small attentions to comfort, this could be a great place to stay, but without them, I wouldn't return.

Quinta D'Liz is ideally located on Troncones beach (just isolated enough, but still easy walking distance to the little hub of Troncones), easily the best-priced lodging on the beach, and a charming place to stay. The manager, Maria, greeted us with coffee and toast every morning and helped make our six nights there absolutely unforgettable.

The property is made up of six casitas and one main house, though during our stay only two other couples were occupying casitas. There is a small common kitchen with refrigerator and stove available for use anytime, and a common patio where we spent many a sunset. Our room was cleaned daily, and we found the atmosphere welcoming and relaxing. A side note: there is no hot water, but it was so warm during our stay that we actually enjoyed cool showers! Overall, Quinta D'Liz perfectly combined the simplicity of beachside camping with hotel-style amenities.

Nearby, El Burro Borracho is a great spot to drink, eat, and hang out -- good prices and super friendly owners. The local surf shop rents out boogie boards (about $10 for the whole day), and the water near Quinta D'Liz is ideal for swimming.

At $50/night (includes coffee and toast) this is probably the best value on the beach in Troncones and. The small round casitas are simple, but with mosquito netting around the bed and a hammock in front have everything you need. The pillows, foam pads in pillow cases, are not the best. Also, they need a better way, like a foot bath, to remove sand from your feet . You will be required by Luis, the absentee owner, to wire a deposit through Western Union. This is a nuisance and comes with hefty fees, but is reliable. We heard that the place is for sale, so this terrific deal probably won't last.

What a rare find; peace and simplicity abound. Quinta d'Liz exceeded our expectations in every way. Our host, owner/manager, Luis Lopez, was most gracious and accommodating; a gentleman of the old school. Maria Pineda, assistant manager, truly made us feel a part of the family. A real treasure.

The people of the pueblo Troncones were some of the friendliest people we ever met. There is so much more to say about Troncones and her people, but words would not do them justice.

Our month's stay at Quinta d'Liz in Troncones would be rated as 6-stars.

Oh, did we mention the food, the beach and the sunsets,...AMAZING!

We will return...hopefully very soon!

Now this is an easy review, as this place was great! Everything in context of what it is, and it's a charming set of small, clean bungalows right on a quiet beach in a small town. The churning and crashing waves are a beautiful back drop and will lull you into pure relaxation.

The normal host was not there, and in his place was Maria who was charming and warm. Their are many restaurants with in 5 minute walk, and the entire town probably takes 10 mines to walk through. Aside from the hotel/restaurants, we were directed to some very small places to eat off the main strip. The food in them was more local, delicious and very inexpensive. We really became quiet enamored with this little place, and enjoyed it's charms more then the posh high end hotel we had just arrived from.

If you're in town, you MUST eat the vanilla flan at Cafe Sol. I was told it is the best flam in Mexico, I think they're right. Seems they use the eggs of ducks from a hillside. I can only assume these are magical ducks as we found ourselves eating two flans to compliment our delicious breakfast.
