I stayed here for a week and was very impressed. The communal area is lovely with hammocks and lots of seating. I stayed in a dorm, which was cleaned everyday and the beds were spacious.
My only complaint is that there were no fan or mosquito nets in our dorm. This obviously meant it was very hot and you got bit all night.
Also, this place is very chilled. If you want somewhere where you can be a bit rowdy I suggest going somewhere else.
I spent 1 year in South America and this place was one of the best places to stay.
Exceptionally clean and fabulous value for money, plus it is really secure and safe.
The room are comfortable, clean and the showers work. The courtyard is a great place to hang out and meet other people. It is a short walk into the town (3 minutes) but being just a little outside is a plus as far a I can tell.
The food is good and although slightly higher priced than the menu restaurants is good quality.
If you are there for the surf:
There is a beach directly opposite with a little and yes it does break on big days. (I was there March to April), on the other side of the pier, there is an exceptional left, it was on 34 days out of 36. The waves are uncrowded because they are spread out and locals friendly enough. With enough waves for everyone the vibe is good. When it gets too big get up to Chicama....
From what we could tell the water quality is very good.
The weekends get busy in the town as people from the city make the day trip.
There is plenty do do in Huanchacho and Trujillio is a 20 minute collectivo ride away.
Our experience was that the town itself is very safe.

Naylamp is an absolutely amazing deal. It's on the far side of the beach, but the rooms are large and clean, the water is hot (sometimes hard to find in Peru!), and the camping space is excellent. It's a large place and great for meeting new people. I stayed here for a few nights and took surfing lessons from Carlos at the Wave, and will be returning to Huanchaco in the next few weeks to camp and surf some more.
We stayed at Hostel Naylamp for around two weeks in mid October and had a lovely time there. The hostel is located at the quieter end of town which is perfect for people wanting to avoid the hustle and bustle of the centre, but still be within easy walking distance. Having spent nearly two months in Peru, Naylamp is one of the best hostels we've stayed in and good value for people looking for a hostel that won't break the bank but still has a few luxuries like good showers. We paid 45 soles per night for a twin room on the ground floor - although in town you could find double rooms for as cheap as 30 soles. The staff are friendly, the rooms and grounds are kept sparklingly clean and there is a good, hot shower - plus there is a restaurant on site when you don't feel like heading out to eat. There is also a communal kitchen in the camping area which guests can use.
We stayed in a double room with private bathroom at the back part of the hostel. The room was clean and basic - good shower pressure and hot water. We were able to get a weak wifi connection in the room, but it was much stronger in the communal areas.
The hostel is located past the centre of town opposite the seafront. There is a restaurant on site which provides reasonable food at a reasonable price (they provide room service for rooms at the back of the hostel - just pick up the phone!). We were staying on a Sunday & the restaurants in the town closed early, so we did eat dinner at the restaurant & breakfast one morning (it is not included in the price). They also sell water, soft drinks, beer & wine.
The lady at reception spoke English & was really helpful with providing information on the local buses (they leave very close to the hostel & are very frequent), as well as how to visit Huaca del Luna and Chan Chan without a tour (it really is easy & much cheaper). She also arranged our bus tickets to Ecuador, which were delivered to the hostel, saving us needing to go to the bus station. We also used their laundry service, which was quick and cheap.
If you are looking to stay in Trujillo, do look at staying in Huanchaco - it is a laid back fishing village within 20 minutes of the city.

stay there for 3 nights instead of staying in the big city near by ,trujio.
the village is very nice and quiet, the hostel is located on the beach and near a few bars and restaurants, there Are always buses to the city, a hour drive to the temple of sun and moon and 20 minutes to the chan chan. you can also take a tour from the hostel.
the rooms are clean, they have hot water and a free wifi even thogh the signal wasn't so good.
in addition they have a lot of relaxing placed to seet in the area of the hostel.
you can find in the hostel a little restaurant with good food in a reasonable prices.
the staff are very nice, helpful and smiley all the time.
the only thing we didn't like at the hostel is that they have not breakfast included in the price and saturday is the party time over there and the noice at night is awful. but in the rest of the week it was quiet.
