One of the best places we stayed, even if it does lack in charm, great facilities made up for it! Only hostel we stayed in in Peru that had constant hot water and I still claim that I had the best breakfasts in the whole of Peru there.
We arrived early in the morning but they managed to get us into our rooms, after some initial confusion we ended up in a room of 4, and a room that was supposed to be 3 but they added an extra bed. Both had their own bathrooms and duvets! After itchy blankets in every hostel we thought we had found heaven.
Rooms were very light and airy and cleaned every day. We stayed at the back of the hostel (it is split into two by a road) so we had the use of a large terrace. The rules on the terrace state that you should move elsewhere after 10pm though as it can get quite loud and this was always respected, as there is an equally nice area above the restaurant in the main part of the hostel. There is even a phone on the terrace so you can get service from the restaurant!
The laundry was the cheapest we found throughout Peru and actually got out all our stains!
The backpacker kitchen was smaller than what we had previously experienced and only really let two people cook in there at a time. There was only two tables which seemed to be silly as there was a large camping area as well as the rest of the hostel.
I would suggest taking a map from the reception because taxi drivers from Trujillo have a problem with the one way system and you often end up getting dropped off ages away from the hostel.
There is also a computer for guest use.
