Owner description: Puddleduck Vineyard is a small family Tasmanian Vineyard owned by Darren and Jackie Brown. We welcome you to taste our beautiful cool climate wine at our friendly cellar door, which is open from 10 - 5 daily. Whilst here you will probably meet Polly our wine dog, or Lucky or cellar door duck. Feel free to have a "Reverse BYO" (you supply the picnic food and we supply the beverages) to enjoy while in the area.

We loved our wine-tasting here even though it was a miserable day with lots of rain. Sat outside with "Lucky" the duck and his mate who tried to get into the Cafe several times while we were enjoying our picnic basket (it`s reverse BYO here). So funny! Now the wines were seriously the best we tasted in Tasmania! The Riesling was absolutely out of this world. Tasting included 5 or 6 wines, each with an explanation of their history. It`s a family run business and these guys know what they are doing. A real must do!

A popular vineyard in the coal valley, Puddleduck is the perfect spot to spend an arvo with friends. We booked a table for 10 to celebrate a birthday, but on this particular day there were also a couple of hens parties etc, so it was indeed busy. The reception/shop is quite tiny and there is no inside seating although there is a huge sideless marquee outside that seats heaps. We were happily seated in the grounds though, on a huge table under a giant umbrella. Later in the arvo when it did start to rain, the staff happily moved us undercover. Nothing was too much trouble, the staff were really friendly and despite it being insanely busy, we were really well looked after. A brilliant feature of Puddleduck is you can BYO food, making the day less expensive but also allowing you to have just what you want, including birthday cake!!!
Probably most famous for its Bubbleduck sparkling, you should certainly give it a try, although its on the exy side at $45, but it is SO popular its often sold out. Being a sav girl, I was disappointed in their current drop as it was very very sweet, so we opted instead for the Riesling, which surprisingly (as I said im usually strictly a sav girl!), was very nice, and is a reasonable $28.
Never fear though, you can taste all their varieties before you buy :)
Highly recommended for a lazy afternoon on a warm day.

What a lovely afternoon. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Wines were nice, especially the Riesling and new Pinot. They made sure the kids were entertained. Dog (Polly) and Lucky the puddle duck provided lots of entertainment. Various options from a wine tasting at the bar to cheese platters. Love the reverse yo whereupon ring the food, then buy the wine. Yummy grape juice for the kids. A relaxing setting and very hospitable. Definitely worth a visit.

Thanks for taking the time to put pen to paper - we understand (being parents ourselves) how important it is for the children to have something to do too - we are glad that you enjoyed the wines and your time at Puddleduck!

A great end to an afternoon - sitting and enjoying local cheeses with our wine tasting, next to a nice pond and ducks in the afternoon sun.

As with most boutique vineyards the wines are not cheap. However, the facilities for are function are fantastic, BYO food, BBQ available, but you have to buy their beverages. The venue is fully licensed and sells beer, cider and the wines. The venue can accommodate 80. Highly recommended.

Thanks for your comments about our Reverse BYO - we love the fact we can help to keep costs down for people by letting them bring their own food. It's true we can accommodate up to 80 people at once but we find that 60 is much kinder to our staff and facilities!
