“Where did the steam train go?”
Reviewed 13 August 2012

They used to have a real working steam train you could ride, now it's just a desiel locomotive pulling a few old cars. Not exciting, I can get on Amtrack and actually go some where but I want the nostalgia of the old time steam train back

“Don't bother”
Reviewed 20 June 2012

Old, run down, unkept, boring, short ride. We couldn't wait for it to end.

“"Everything Chocolate Day "on the train....”
Reviewed 2 June 2012

Wonderful trip to see/ride this train operated by Volunteers. Delicious home cooked cupcakes, brownies, fudge, and cookies, along with chocolate candy, all provided free of charge! I had a great time, it was just myself and my husband, and I am a "low key" train fan. Got to tour and ride up in the cab with the engineer! The volunteers were very welcoming and thankful to the visitors. I would recommend it to families with kids for sure, low prices, friendly people, crayons at the table, a coloring contest for the kids with prizes, and birthdays were announced. There is a small museum also. The outside of the train shows it's age, but the inside is totally redone, and looks great! Trains only run on Saturday though....
The Name is actually, "St.Louis Iron Mountain Railroad"

“Take a train trip back in time”
Reviewed 7 September 2009

The Saint Louis Iron Mountain and Southern Railway Company is a down home, back country attraction that contains some surprises. They are in the major process of rebuilding their steam locomotive. The rolling stock is not that impressive looking from the outside, but inside it has been refinished beautifully. The two heavy weight 1930s cars have polished wood tables and comfortable curved seats where you can enjoy your snacks. The third passenger car is 1950s stainless steel sided, reupholstered, and AIR CONDITIONED for those really hot days. Don't forget to visit the bright red caboose which has been refinished into an amazing example of what can be done with wood and a RR themed interior.

When the train stops at the park to reverse directions, you have the opportunity to pass next to the hard working (and running) diesel engines on your way to the cab for a brief tour and the opportunity to sound the horn yourself.

Be forewarned that train robbers have been known to appear in this part of the country and they are liable to steal kisses from any young lasses who can penetrate their beards.
