I'm a huge fan of checking out local brews when on location and I wasn't disappointed here. This tour provides a good overview of the beer making process followed by samples of the beer made right on site. Definitely get reservations or you might get left out in the cold.
If you are in Kansas City, you should definitely check out the Boulevard brewery. The tour itself took about 45 minutes, and the tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable, giving you just the right amount of information without getting esoteric. They were very generous with their beer tasting - you get to try 4 different beers of your choice. Make sure to taste the smokestack series and the stout - there is much more to Boulevard then the wheat, pale ale, and bully porter! The best thing was the fact that the tour and beer tasting was free! Book a tour in advance. If you like beer, you'll have a great time!
I've been to the big breweries and taken their tours (Budweiser in St. Louis and Ft Collins, Coors in Golden and Miller in Wisconsin) and they don't compare to what Boulevard is doing. With the tour, you get a walk-through tour with a highly-knowledgable tour guide (takes between 50-60 minutes) and a 30 minute tasting afterwards.
This is where Boulevard differs from the others... instead of limiting you to 2 or 3 samplings, they allow you to try as much as you want in a 30 minute time period. An no, they don't give you a pint glass for these samples, but the glasses are large enough to get a good taste of their perfect beers.
After the tour, the gift shop is right outside the sampling area (bar) to buy some great souveniers.
This tour comes highly recommended by me... a beer loving individual in Kansas City. NOTE: Please BE SURE to plan way ahead for the tour. It books few months out.
Visited Boulevard Brewery for the tour with some friends and out of town relatives from San Fran & NY. I've been on the Anheusur Busch, Coors, Miller and New Castle tours and would rank Boulevard somewhere in the middle. Nice small brewery, the tour consisted of a quick video of the history of the company, quick walk around the facility and samples of the beer. Make sure and book Friday 3PM tour, you can stay longer if you wish and sit outside. They do limit the total time you can sample. Overall, it was a nice brewery and I love their beer, so it made the small quick tour that much better. FYI - La Bodega is awesome Mexican Food located just down Southwest Blvd less than 1 mile, would be great for dinner and drinks following the tour.
