“Always a treat”
Reviewed 8 January 2014

Would that such a lovely mix of shops and eateries was available in my hometown. Just need a clothing shop for real-size women to complete the varietal mix.

“Magical at Christmas. Too many chains.”
Reviewed 5 January 2014

It's interesting to see from a lot of other reviews of Country Club Plaza how it's lovely to see. And it is! Especially at Christmastime (I was just there last weekend) it's absolutely magical. But I was otherwise disappointed in Country Club Plaza. With only a handful of exceptions, it's full of the same kind of chain retailers and restaurants you can find almost anywhere -- M&S Grill, 52 Seasons, Capitol Grill, Cheesecake Factory, PF Changs, Restoration Hardware, Pottery Barn, Pandora, etc. In fact, you can find many of these operations at other Kansas City area malls.

I understand the almighty dollar and the fact that mom and pop shops and local chefs don't have the same economies of scale to be able to make it there. But as a tourist, the area just feels sanitized. In fact, after one pass through Country Club Plaza, I moved on to explore other neighborhoods -- Brookside, River Market and Crossroads Art District -- all fascinating and interesting. All had a feeling of Kansas City.

One other surprise about Country Club Plaza: It's ringed by some residential areas and yet there was nothing within walking distance that would serve locals -- like a grocery, pharmacy, etc.

“Christmas on the Plaza”
Reviewed 7 December 2013

The Plaza is one of my favorite places to see, especially at the holidays. The gorgeous buildings fully lined and lit with colorful lights sets the tone and is a treasured KC tradition. A highlight in this grand and wonderful city.......if only city planners today used KC as an example!

“romantic date”
Reviewed 2 December 2013

One of the best dates I ever had was a day at the Plaza. Everything was perfect- the weather, the place, the company. We wandered about windowshopping and ate and went to a movie and had a carriage ride. Crown Center is right there also, with an outdoor concert stage and free concerts in the summer, fountains everywhere. Local school choirs carol at Christmastime under the Plaza Lights, and the concert stage becomes an ice rink in the winter. Prices there tend to give me sticker shock, but other than that, it's a pleasant way to spend an afternoon, day, evening.

“Oozes charm and ambience”
Reviewed 30 November 2013

I lived near the Plaza during the 70's and spent loads of my free time there. I never tired of the fountains, the shops, the restaurants and the ambience in general. What a relief from the usual covered dull monotonous shopping centers and strip malls. The Plaza invites a more reflective, quieter, less harried life. Always a fun place to hang out and stroll about, stopping for a coffee or window shopping; especially nice at Christmas with the lights. If I were compiling a to do list for first time visitors, the Plaza would be included.
