“A beautiful museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 May 2014

It is a world class art museum with classic art from all periods and styles.
We had a docent-led tour and a time limit (I was with a tour). We went from room to room while she explained one example in each room. I would preferred to be left on my own to wander around the rooms that interested me.

“Spend some time here”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 May 2014

I spent time in the contemporary art section of this museum. There were a few amazing pieces I could have stayed with all day.
Make sure you see the sculpture outside as well.

Wear you walking shoes this place is large and interesting. Very few or the most famous artists are missing. Well worth a visit.

“Hidden Gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 April 2014

While Kansas City might not pop into anyone's minds as the art capital of the universe, it offers a surprising amount of art to be seen. Came to KC for a weekend and was delighted to discover that the both the Kemperer museum of contemporary art and the Nelson Atkins were open until 9:00 pm on Thursday and Friday nights. Like many museums their hours are a little crazy so it is important to check the website but other than that no problem. Additionally both museums are free.

The collection itself is small but seems well curated and thoughtful - to be sure this isn't the Met (but it isn't going to cost you $20 to get in either!) but it 's not trying to be either. Be sure to check out the Rodin's located in the balcony over the first floor café area, the awesome sculpture garden chock full of Henry Moores (and those delightful shuttlecocks) and explore the sliver thin new addition that is an art piece unto itself -with a delightful selection of more contemporary artists.

Combine this with a trip to the Kemperer and the Kansas City Art Institute (just around the corner) and dinner in the gallery-filled Crossroads district and you'll have an art-filled day.
