We had a Bed and Breakfast Package and stayed for two days to see the Plaza Christmas lights. I'm a very fussy reviewer so here goes:

Outstanding:
The Chaz restaurant in the hotel. Pricy but worth every penny. Food quality was excellent and the wait service was top notch. I was very impressed.
The hotel staff was also top notch and really wanted to make sure that their guests have a very enjoyable stay.
The in room single serve non-decalf coffee was delicious. The TV was a large screen HD model.
Hotel Location, location, location. It's a wonderful location for seeing the Plaza Christmas lights and going Plaza shopping.. Suites are quite large and the bed was very comfortable.

Commendable: Free Internet and free covered parking.

So so: The elevator was small and very slow. It really needed a remodel or a good scrubbing. Maybe that should be expected since the hotel is, shall we say, vintage. Room service was a bit slow but the room service food quality was worth the wait. Internet was slow in the early morning but fine in the evening.

Issues: Our first evening there was a loud, possibly drunken, open door to the hall party going on in the suite next door around 8 pm disturbing most of our floor. Finally the hotel staff, somewhat reluctantly, sent up an enforcer to quiet it down.
One lamp in our suite, in a key room location, had a broken switch and the lamp never worked. We notified the maid with a note the next day and the lamp was removed but no replacement was forthcoming. The bathtub fixtures were slightly loose. Hot water was not hot hot, just marginally hot enough for a shower. The camode had to be flushed several times. This is not what I expected to find in an expensive hotel.

Staying here was a good overall experience and far better than staying in some big box chain hotel. The highlight for us was the hotel location, restaurant quality and the truly great hotel staff.

It had been over 12 years since we had been to the Raphael on the Plaza in Kansas City. We had heard the hotel was completely remodeled. The hotel, staff, room and restaurant exceeded our expectations. The Staff was incredibly friendly. The room was extremely clean and completely updated. They still have their signature white Raphael robe which is a nice tradition. We also had dinner at Chaz, the hotel restaurant. The food and service were great. Finally, the price of our room was extremely reasonable. We stayed in the lower-cost non-plaza view room which worked out great. We will definitely stay at the Raphael again but we won't wait so long the next time!

My boyfriend and I decided we wanted to take a "staycation" during the holidays in order to relax and unwind. It happened to be a really snowy night and day so we literally lounged around all day long. The room was a little small but I loved the layout of it and the bathrooms were luxuriously and classily old fashioned. The TV was a beautiful flat screen and the service was wonderful. Not to mention, the view of the Country Club Plaza at night with the Christmas lights and snow falling was spectacular!

We had a perfect, though brief, stay at the Raphael. The first room we were shown had a disappointing view and we were quickly provided with a beautiful suite with a wonderful view of the plaza. William at the front desk was extremely professional and pleasant both at check-in and when we were leaving for the airport the next morning even though his shift hadn't quite started. I believe the bellman was named Daryl and he was also very accomodating at check-in. We have stayed at another hotel in the area and agree that the Raphael is the perfect location. My only regret is that we took a walk around the Plaza and had dinner in one of the restaurants there. We should have dined at the hotel restaurant and definitely will next time.

My wife and I stayed here for a night and enjoyed everything about this hotel. The classic decor is up to date and the service was fabulous. We staying in a jacuzzi suite and it was beyond our expectations. The bed was so comfortable after a long day and the view of the plaza was a nice bonus. We also ordered room service for breakfast and it was the best I have ever had.

We did have a problem with the jacuzzi but the hotel staff made everything satisfactory and exceeded that by calling us the next day to let us know they were sending us a free nights stay for our trouble.

This hotel deserves all kinds of awards. Definitely #1 in KC and we will definitely be back (even without the free stay).

I had a wonderful stay at The Raphael for business purposes in 2006 and enjoyed the close proximity to the Country Club Plaza. I planned to return some day with my wife for a romantic weekend getaway. With spouse in tow I made it back in October of 2010. Check in was a breeze and parking is FREE in a gated flat lot directly behind the hotel. The room was clean, had a nice flat screen TV and the bed was wonderful.

As we were leaving for the evening stroll through the Plaza for dinner and shopping we advised the front desk that the West elevator was making a bit of noise and they may need to take a look at that. Before we took two steps toward the front door the front desk manager apologized for the inconvenience, arranged to move us to the other end of the hotel, with an upgrade and provided vouchers for a free breakfast (at the Chaz). We were slightly stunned by their unsolicited offer. If you are staying in the downtown Kansas City area I would start and finish my hotel search at The Raphael.

We spent one night at the Raphael on a recent quick trip through Kansas City. The staff were helpful and friendly, our room was very nice and roomy, and the location was great for walking to the Plaza and visiting the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. We booked the room as a Travelocity Top Secret Room, so the price was hard to beat. Our only complaints would be the small size of the tub and and firmness of the mattress. Otherwise a very positive stay.
