“Not a good experience for the money”
Reviewed 6 May 2012

My husband, 2 year old, and myself stayed at this hotel. We were in town over the weekend for a UMKC graduation. The suite was a good size with 2 nice tvs, a fridge and microwave. The room was blandly decorated and the windows that you can open were filthy and the screens were not on the windows all of the way. There was a hotel party on the second night of the stay that was disturbing because of how thin the walls are. There was no way to get into the breakfast area the second morning because it was packed and there was no one around to move along the stragglers. We almost could not get safely out of the parking lots because of the overflow of cars. We had to go to the front desk to request housekeeping after 3pm because no one had come by at all. We also paid with a debit card ( we reserved online weeks in advanced) and they have taken multiple charges out of my account with no warning. When we called this evening after arriving home and checking our accounts, we were told by the front office staff that the multiple extra charges were for incedentals and would take 5-7 business days to reverse. She also said there is a sign at the front desk ( which we discovered after checking in pushed to the far side and sideways) and that we should know that hotels take extra money for this. We stated that not only did the Marriott website not say anything when we booked but when we checked in they took my debit card, ran it, and sent us on our way in two minutes flat without saying a single word. Being as I have not traveled in a while, we had no idea of these charges. Considering that I am being charged $369 for two nights I feel that this hotel was sub par and we have a message out to the manager regarding these issues.

Our son lives in KC so when we go we stay at the Fairfield Inn Downtown/Union Hill. My wife and I have stayed here 3 times and would recommend it to anyone. It is not an elaborate place but clean and well kept. The staff is very friendly and helpful. It is very centrally located to alot of things yet away from the busyness. The breakfast in the mornings is somewhere between continental and full breakfast and is always very good.

Room Tip: We always try to get on the third floor as it seems very quiet there.

First thoughts as I drove off US 71 was not good as the area appears rough, but got to hotel and everything is fine, just look for the tall Red Radio Tower. Hotel is nice looking but nothing extravagant. Pool and small fitness room on bottom floor, breakfast was fine, nothing to gripe about nor brag about. Hotel sits on the top of Union Hill and only a 10-15 min walk to Crown Center and WW I Memorial, Union Station, etc.. for quite a bit less $$ than nearby hotels.
Staff was very nice, allowed to check in 1 hr early as travel took less time than expected.
Room was fine again nothing special but cozy and the A/C worked great and TV and Channel selection were very good as well as having Free WiFi in room.
Good stay and would recommend for business trip on budget or for couples weekend to tour downtown KC.

My stay at this Fairfield Inn was very good. The staff was most friendly and helpful. The location is great! Do ask for a room in the back off Main Street and yes the walls are thin but the amenities in my room were standard fare for Fairfield which was fine. It was nice to open up real windows! Free parking and free internet but do not expect much at the breakfast.

Our rooms were fine. Front desk help nice and personable. First time staying here. There was a cheerleading or dance competition going on while we were there. We chose this hotel because of its close proximity to the Country Club Plaza and my mother-in-laws house. Breakfast was unbelievable. I mean no matter what time we went down there was always a limited selection and the worker seemed to make no effort to replenish anything. She was just plain SLOW! We stayed from Saturday thru to Tuesday, same thing EVERY morning. It became a joke of sort with our family. I am milking the coffee carafe to get a cup...........smh. Maybe they start off every morning with a limited supply and when it was gone it was just GONE! Pitiful! Rating service average because the breakfast worker and the fact that when we asked for extra face towels and was brought 2 towels with gaping holes!!! OMGoodness....

Room Tip: Our rooms were fine (440 & 441) not sure of a tip to give for rooms.

We are in Kansas City often for business, and have stayed in many of the hotels in the downtown area. None are noticeably much better than the Fairfield Inn, and when you factor in free parking, Internet, and breakfast, along with indoor pool and comfortable rooms, it can't be beat. It is just a few blocks south of Union Station, right on the Max Bus line, which gives you easy access from downtown to Country Club Plaza and the Art Museum. Staff was very helpful, and had cookies at the counter for check in. Feels like home.

A very interesting non-cookie cutter Fairfield in the midst of a busy neighbohood in KC. Plenty of fenced parking on site. The place is in need of a renovation, but atyplically, it really is in very good condition. Management, Engineering and Housekeeping have managed to stay ahead of the usual visible signs of an aging property - like repairing ding marks on walls, keeping elevators CLEAN and without smells and making sure room heaters aren't noisy and showers work properly.

Location is great, Gates Bar B Q is two blocks down.

It's good to see a Front Desk staff with personality too. Nadvish checked me in and immediately took charge of my dining selection for the evening. Let her order for you as well. (Jimmy Johns insread of McD's or Wendys). Gates Bar b q is 2 blocks down also.

It's a great place to spend a night or two -- I'd stay here again without question. Oh one more thing -- the rooms have REAL WINDOWS that slide up and down allowing REAL air in!!! A huge plus..,

Room Tip: It appears the line of rooms ending 20-30 are quietest and face the Residence Inn instead of Main St...
