I took my parents and kids. It was the best afternoon we spent in Kansas City. My parents and kids enjoyed equally. It was fun and relaxing and there were people in period costume walking around. There was a butter lady churning fresh butter and handing out samples. We saw a gun fight with the sheriff and Jesse James and his team. The school and doctors office was wonderful. I would really recommend that you see this - you won't regret it. First Saturdays of the month is when they have all the plays and actors. And best of all it was free!

A very nice way to spend about an hour. Interesting history and so peaceful. It was warm the day we went and there was little shade in some areas so bring some water to drink.

Beautiful place to walk and enjoy an afternoon with family. The old buildings have been nicely restored and give the feel of walking through an old time community. The village is spread throughout a hill top and valley area so there is some uphill and down hill walking, but nothing that is difficult to manage. General photography and hobby photography are permitted, but they do require a photo permit for professional photographers. The regulations can be found at http://kcparks.org/facility/shoal-creek-living-history-museum/. Overall, it is a wonderful step back in time, a great place to spend your afternoon enjoying the outdoors or having a picnic. I would absolutely recommend a visit.

It's a little tough to find but well worth it once you get there. Great, peaceful walk through the grounds to look at buildings of yesteryear. Also a great spot for photography!

The Shoal Creek Living History Museum is a little slice of life in the 19th century. Its on a corner of Hodge Park by the golf course and it helps to know that its there to find it. Its about 80 acres in size and there are a number of buildings to explore. The first Saturday of each month they have events at the park. Walking around the park allows you to look at life in the 1800's and they have a nice selection of exhibits. You can pack a picnic basket and enjoy lunch at the site. There is a water mill, church, cemetery, schoolhouse a blacksmith shop and more. We wandered around for a couple of hours and will definitely will be going back. Some special events have a fee but most of the time the park is free to visit.
