We stayed at this hotel for a Kansas City wedding, held in the Marriott Muehlebach. As Hilton members, we chose to stay in the Hilton President Kansas City. I am so grateful we did.
The President is one of those gorgeous old hotels built in the 20s that probably went under at some point before becoming a Hilton. It doesn’t look like your typical downtown hotel in the slightest. It’s gorgeous, and the public areas have been lovingly restored. You feel more glamorous just walking through the lobby.
The rooms are modern, well-appointed, and up-to-date. Ours didn’t have a tub, but had an enormous walk-in shower. The bed was fantastically comfortable. The breakfast buffet was ample and hot. (I love a breakfast buffet with biscuits). The staff was unfailingly pleasant and helpful.
The only difficulty we ever encountered was in trying to access the wifi; it was very slow. However, we weren’t there to work, and it didn’t bother us enough to call and ask for help.
One of the best things about the room is how dark it got at night. There were copious windows to let light in during the day, but the curtains kept out all the city lights at night (which just almost never happens). The layout of the room is such that the bed was around the corner from the door, so that the light from the hallway light didn’t shine in every night. (It's so nice when hotel rooms are like that).
The hotel was quiet; we never heard any noise at all in our room. We got excellent sleep each night.
I couldn’t help but compare it to the Marriott where the rest of the wedding guests were staying. It was huge and newer, yes. But it didn’t have a fraction of the character of the President, and (from what I heard) it was much noisier.
The President has class, charm, comfort, and quiet. You can’t ask for much better than that in a downtown hotel.
