“Great Value”

We really enjoyed this hotel. Stayed one night and won it on priceline for under $70/night (under $85/night with tax). The hotel is very dated with worn out flooring and walls, closed-off areas that you can tell used to be open, and faded/worn fixtures ... but it retains a lot of charm, nooks, and crannies. Within walking distance of freight house restaurants, but I would suggest driving, as the walk is "awkward". Views from higher floors are very nice. Our corner double bed room on the NW side was extremely large. Fitness center is also very large and includes a heated outdoor pool, hot tub, sauna, and steam room - FYI, there is an additional $5 charge to use the fitness area. Also, there is a $19 charge for parking. Visited the WWI museum next door, which was fascinating and well worth the time and $12 adult admission.

....if you manage to get a room for a decent rate. This is large hotel that is suitable for conferences or business travel. The lobby is large, dark and quite loud. Parking is convenient, but expensive. While there is a food court located in the Crown Center attached to the hotel, decent food options require driving. Our room was plain, but the beds as always were heavenly....except the two black bugs I found. When I mentioned it to the lady at the front desk, she said that sometimes guests leave the sliding doors open and the beetle bugs come in...She offered to comp us a meal, which I graciously declined...all I wanted was a clean bed. They changed the bedding and cleaned the room again while we were out. In general I've been a fan of the Westins, but I admit - unless the rate was stellar - I would not stay here again. On the plus side, the location is suitable for getting around Kansas City. The World War I museum is across the street from the hotel & worth a visit. Kaufman Stadium was enjoyable for a baseball game. Spent most of our time in the laidback Westport area with great places to eat & grab a microbrew. Don't miss Oklahoma Joes for the best burnt ends ever, located in a gas station no less. (yes...a gas station!) The Record Bar for more great brews & music and finally, The R Bar....for yet more great food, music & cocktails... Kansas City, it's a great place to visit for a getaway!

I have stayed at some really beautiful Westin Hotels... this comes nowhere near. The building looks pretty nice from the outside, but inside is quite old. We got a Corner Park room- boasting panoramic views... really there were just two big windows facing two different directions- and one of the views was obstructed by a big cement pillar. Initially, we were placed on the 9th floor- which had ZERO view- except of the unsightly back of a neighboring building and hints of a skating rink across the way. The room description boasts being "quiet"... Well, across the street is a fountain that has a "Water Show" every hour or so with loud music. This just proved to me that the windows were not at ALL sound-proof... it sounded like someone was next door blasting music.... And although the neighbors weren't blasting music, we could hear every word they said... The popcorn ceilings were disappointing. The stains on our "Heavenly Bed" were disappointing. The smudges and spots on our bathroom mirrors and windows were disappointing. The dirty shower was the last straw. I went to the front desk and complained- and requested a different room. The service was good- they didn't ask any questions- just promptly moved us up to the 14th floor- the other side of the building- MUCH better view (still the giant pillar) cleaner, but still, could hear our neighbors whooping and hollering all night and WAY into the early morning... It was a windy night- and it sounded like there were windows open somewhere- lots of howling wind and pretty drafty... In the end... we were paying for the name... This did NOT live up to the Westin chain as I know it... The hotel needs to be overhauled to be worth the room rates they're charging.... Although a nice location- I've stayed in Holiday Inns that were cleaner and more visually appealing.

Room Tip: Corner suites aren't what you think. Look at pictures of the outside of the building to get an i...

We stayed to nights and loved the view.We were there for the 25 year dinner from Hallmark and everyone was very accomidating. The bed was so heavenly comforting we hated to leave.
We certainly would like to return and stay longer. We also enjoyed how quiet it was.

Room Tip: The higher the better facing the city

I stayed here for a conference in October. I would say it was a pretty average facility. The conference spaces were--predictably--quite cold for my liking, but that tends to be the case at most conference spaces. The food was definitely nothing to rave about. No fruit at breakfast--not ever whole pieces of fruit. The lunch was very meat-centric (yes, I know, KC is the home of BBQ, but still...). There is free wifi, but only in the lobby, and there didn't seem to even be an option to pay for wifi access in the meeting rooms, which was frustrating.

My room was in a corner, so it was quite big and had nice views of the city--definitely a nice perk. The bathroom was a bit dated, and the bathroom towels had a vinegar smell that wasn't so nice. I thought maybe it was just an accident (maybe cleaning solution spilled on them?), but the clean towels they refreshed the room with on day 2 also smelled like this.

The gym area is nice enough, and the pool looked lovely (with a little "tunnel" between the indoor and outdoor sections), but it was too cool for swimming when I was there. I was annoyed that there's a $5 charge to use the gym, though. The should be complimentary for hotel guests (particularly since I was there for business, but the gym charges appear as a separate line item on the bill, and my company does not pick up "spa" charges...very frustrating!).

The location is pretty good - many decent restaurants within walking distance. Overall, this place was pretty average and as expected.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room facing the city (front of the hotel)

We have stayed here for nearly 35 years and every trip has been special because the Crown Center has evolved and the hotel has remained much the same in its appeal. It is always something special.

Room Tip: Some corner rooms are very spacious.

Everything was top shelf - only minor inconvenience was that fitness center does not open until 7 a.m. on weekends, which is a minisucle factor when comparing with everything else this place offers - excellent!
