Recently spent 3 days here. The cabins are very confortable with king size beds and stone wood burning fireplaces, and screened in porches which overlook the river. Tom, one of the owners, could not have been more accommodating. We were only one of 2 cabins occupied during our stay. Tom made sure we had plenty of firewood, even coming to start a fire before we returned from our daytime outing. He and the other owners are self-proclaimed "foodies" and it shows. Variety of breakfast menus, and wonderful evening meals were served with great hospitality, and a feeling of dining in the owner's home. They even provide complimentary appetizers in the bar area every evening complete with a roaring fire in the stone fireplace. The entire staff was eager to provide an outstanding experience. The resort is perched above the Black River, and is close to Elephant Rocks State park, and Johnson Shut-Ins.

Word of mouth is usually spot on... and yet, rave reviews don't begin to compare with the experience to be had at Wilderness Lodge. Just a few turns off pavement onto a well groomed gravel road, I felt like we stepped back in time to a simpler day. Robust cabins, perched on the Black River and anchored by a richly flavored lodge greeted us upon arrival. And for a simple, beautiful Fall float trip, we were treated like kings... bellies full of fancy trimmings, and a Manhattan by the roaring fire? Oh, you'd better believe I'll be back.. I should have never left! Thanks for a great weekend...

Months ago we planned a birthday trip to Wilderness Lodge and when the trip finally came, it exceeded every expectation! We went in November when the leaves were peaking and we pulled up to the resort to a cozy fire and a warm reception by our host, Tom. Our two boys immediately bonded with his children and they were off and running, to the basketball court, the river, the zipline, you name it. Our cabin was huge and just lovely, with a nice heater and great touches. Lastly, the food. What else is there to say but the chef is amazing and having gotten a peek at the recipes, she doesn't mess around when it comes to gourmet food. From the fresh guacamole at happy hour in the bar to the bread pudding after dinner, it's top-notch, all the way. We can't wait to go back.

Recently discovered Wilderness Lodge and am in love with the location, the friendly family-run environment, the beautiful food, and the special touches throughout that make this a stand out. From the appetizers in the bar by the fire, to the fantastic dinner and hot breakfast, to the well decorated rooms (someone has a real eye!), to the beautiful trees and river - the Wilderness Lodge is something quite special in the Ozarks. A true stand out I would recommend to anyone - for a family trip where the kids can run around and be kids, a romantic get away, and family reunions, weddings and corporate events! Would be great for all, can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Saw many rooms - all looked great.

I chose the Wilderness Lodge mainly because it's on the beautiful Black River, which I love to float. I also wanted a cabin in the woods by the river, with a deck or porch, a view from the cabin, a place that allows pets and has a restaurant.
Wilderness Lodge met all my criteria, trip advisor reviews were raving, so I booked the Riverside Suite for two nights. When we arrived, there was a packet waiting for us with our names on it and everything we needed to know about our float, meal times, etc. The Riverside Suites are so awesome. The rooms are huge (including the bathroom) and it was so cozy, inviting/welcoming with a huge deck overlooking the woods and river. They supply a little fridge for you too.
They don't really have a restaurant, it's more of a dining room. They have multiple seatings at night, you just pick the time you want to eat. They make a home-cooked meal, which is ready when you get there, so you can get in and out quickly. The food was great, and the staff/owners walk around and talk to everyone and will get to know you by name if you're there more than one night.
Our overall experience was completely satisfying. There was nothing that they didn't think about to accommodate everyone. If you don't like to float, they have pool, hot tub, horseshoes, mini golf, volleyball, etc. you name it, they got it.
But, if they don't, just down the road where the float ends at River's Edge Campground, there is horseback riding and fireworks on the July 4th weekend. I think we'll make it a tradition and go every 4th of July. I really can't say anything bad about this place. I absolutely loved it and will go back.
Oh yeah, there's no TV. That's the only negative thing I have to say. Next time I'll take my portable DVD player.

We went here in August and picked the wrong weekend - the river was flooded. Luckily we were staying at Wilderness, there are so many things to do. We played pool, tetherball, zip lined (just one tree to another), mini golfed, swam in the pool, and used the hot tub. We stayed busy the whole time. I just went there again last weekend to float, we had a crazy float trip. The flood the month before along with 3 days of rain prior to our trip did a number on the river, everyone in my party flipped at least once. But what doesn't kill you makes you makes you stronger. When we got back, had appetizers and then a wonderful meal. I love that they take care of the food for you, it is totally worth the price! It is a wonderful place!

This was one of the most memorable weekends I have ever had. From the wonderful river side suite, #30, to the fantastic food to the welcoming and very accommodating staff. What a beautiful, relaxing calming place to stay. We enjoyed the hot tub! we also loved the appetizers and drinks before dinner, what a great way to meet the other guest. The staff and accommodations made this a memory that we will hold a lifetime. The extra effort made to meet a request for white roses to be placed in our suite was a big hit! We plan to make this a yearly trip.

Room Tip: I would choose one of the suites again, but I'm sure any cabin would be fun to stay in.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
At Wilderness Lodge, we have over 25 different cabins, suites and cottages for guests to enjoy. All cabin prices are based on a per person, per night charge since dinner and lunch are included with the package. Breakfast is available continental style from 7:30am to 9:30am, and we also serve a hot breakfast from 8am to 9am. For dinner, we have 4 seatings at 6pm, 6:30pm, 7pm, and 7:30pm. During the week there is just one dinner seating between 6pm and 7pm (but we still try to be flexible if guests would like to come a little earlier or later). As far as activities, there is of course the Black River directly across the road from Wilderness Lodge for a little (or a lot) of water fun. Just a short walk from the cabins, the river, gravel bars, and side streams are great places to explore, swim, catch water critters and just relax in the sun. For a bit more adventure, we rent canoes, rafts, kayaks, and tubes for floating. We port floaters upstream in the morning for a 4 to 6 hour float (depending upon how fast the river is moving and how many gravel bar breaks you take) that ends up right back at our rivers edge campground. There are plenty more outdoor activities on the property including hiking, fishing, miniature golf, horse shoes, basketball, shuffle board, a playground, frisbee golf, etc -- we even recently found a cave to explore for those not afraid of small spaces. :) There are also a number of cool nature attractions within a short car ride, including Elephant Rock State Park and the recently opened Johnson Shut-ins. To get out of the heat, we have an air conditioned rec room with games & indoor activities -- and we plan to keep the main Lodge open all day long (over the last couple years it was only open during the meal times). Also in the main lodge is the Ripple Room Lounge, open for cocktails and beverages from 5pm to 9pm everyday. For the readers in our crowd that want a little piece and quiet, we have taken one of the Rock Cabins and converted it into a library refuge. Finally, on Saturday nights, we will also hold an informal friendly family game night in the main lodge for anyone that wants to attend. Unwind. Cool Off. Eat Well. Enjoy Wilderness!
