I was told during our meal that the pub had recently changed hands, I hope that is a positive.

Whilst the menu is large, the staff friendly (albeit some are not very good, when we asked what bitter they served The waiter replied Stella and some stuff on hand pumps) nothing is inspiring. The food was ok, decent quantity, but far better is served in places nearby. The prices are ok, but given the quality you would expect more.

I have no idea what this place needs but I would choose others nearby over it a present.

Hi there,

The Malthouse has indeed changed hands in July, we are working hard to get the service and food to a high standard. We hope you will find the changes positive too.

There were some training issues that have been addressed since we took over and I hope you will find us much more knowledgeable on your next visit. Yorkshire has great store of local fresh produce which we intend to take full advantage of in the coming months, and the menu will reflect this. We want to provide a relaxed and informal environment whilst offering the highest quality we can. Our general feedback from the customers has been favourable so far and we aim to build on this.

I hope that the changes will soon become apparent and encourage you to return to us soon.

Many thanks

Ian Bartram

We called in on the off chance as we were passing. We were not disapointed the food was lovely and plenty of choice available . The service was slow but it was very busy so you expect that. Will be visiting again but will book table next time. Friendly staff who performed well under immense pressure on a busy afternoon

Hi there,

Really pleased that you enjoyed your recent visit, it was a very busy shift that Friday and we all worked hard to make everyone's experience enjoyable. It is great to hear when we succeed. We look forward to seeing you again in the near future.

Many thanks

After visiting the Malt House Sister pub The Milestone which was full we were booked in for a table at the Malt House. The table was low down and my legs rubbed on the underneath of the table there was little or no legroom. After reviewing the menu which didn't have a great deal to choose from we both decided on the Goats Cheese and red pepper tart which quite frankly could have been purchased from Tesco was bland and massively overpriced. We assumed the main course would be much better but frankly was worse. The mixed grill was poor, steak chewy and lots of fatty parts to it, gammon was tough and the chunky chips were harder than Mike Tyson. The other main course was venison burger which was nicely presented but again was bland and lacking in flavour. The burger was just picked at but ran out of patience, got bored and left 3/4 of the meal.

Basically in a nutshell it was very very poor quality, massively overpriced and without doubt we would never ever return there nor recommend the place, we would avoid 100%

Went for Sunday lunch, and at £10.50 for a choice of two courses was good value. There are a number of nicely decorated dining areas. Service from attentive and friendly staff. Would recommend a visit.

Visited on a Sunday afternoon, we did not book a table, but when we arrived it was full so we were offered to sit and eat in the sofa area. This would have been ok but the tables are that low down that only if I was to sit on the floor would a dining experience be adequate. Parties who had booked came through the door and were seated and had their orders taken... We were still waiting... The people that came in after us, ordered before us, got served their food.... We were still waiting. We made the decision to leave the restaurant without eating as staff had forgotten about us and other customers that came in after us were still having orders taken and having food served.
