The Focal Point
Reviewed 6 January 2013

The Focal Point is in a store front on Sutton in Maplewood. There is not a bad seat in the house. It is like having a private concert in your own livingroom. You can get a drink at the Maya Cafe bar next door or eat a meal there before the show.

I don't know why the Focal Point isn't packed every single night. This tiny "theatre" space offers great local and international original music, as well as poetry and dancing nights. Whether it's blues, rock, Cajun, swing, Celtic, Basque or folk you can find it at the Focal Point. The acoustics are suprisingly good for a small, wood floored open space. The old theatre seats are also wooden so you may want to bring a cushion with you. Check out their programs at http://www.thefocalpoint.org. You can bring your drinks over from adjoining Maya Cafe. For a nice evening out, eat dinner at the cafe before your show! We recently saw Brewer & Shipley at the Focal Point and it was a great evening. Check it out.
