My family and I absolutely loved the 5 days/4 nights we stayed at Whippoorwill Lake. The folks who run the place are friendly and helpful. The facilities are kept clean and appealing. If you are looking for frills, luxury, or to be catered to, you should stay in a high dollar hotel or a fancy resort where a vastly inferior product is overpriced. This place only offers the best things available: beautiful scenery, a peaceful lake, a sky full of stars, hiking trails, open pit campfires, wonderful memories with the wife and kids, and the bare necessities.
To address the review by "Xenophobic Bill," unfortunately we now live in a society where dishonesty is the common way of life and a majority of the "5 minute" visitors stay for hours and use the privately owned lake and facilities without paying. No business has ever been successful by giving away their product. I'm positive that if "Xenophobic Bill" would train his dog to dig a hole only when it has a bowel movement, and then fill the hole back up, they would not charge him for the dog. Until then, someone has to fill the holes and pick up the poop.
As far as the owner being "foreign;" I never bothered to find out if he is a US citizen, which would make him, not foreign, but an American. I am glad he pointed it out though because everyone knows that there are no money hungry Americans.
There was no sewage problems while we were there so I can't address this issue.
