Stayed at the Colloseum for one night on a stopover while travelling through Cape Town to George. Staff were very friendly and welcoming and check-in was quick and easy. My wife and I were upgraded to a two bedroom suite which was way too much for our needs but very welcome all the same. Super-comfy bed - South African hotels really do a great job in the sleeping department. Location was a bit remote but we chose it for its proximity to the airport so it suited us just fine. Nice view of Table Mountain but not much else. There were a couple of quirky things about the rooms, the lighting system was a complete mystery to me as was the reason for locating the bath in the bedroom. Bar service was quick and friendly, restaurant a bit slow but very good food - the Chicken Curry Potjie was fantastic. Our group of 8 had a very early start for the airport but porters were on hand at 5am to move our bags and all our bills were ready and correct. It was too early for breakfast so the hotel provided us with snack boxes containing yoghurt, juice, pastries and fruit as well as fresh coffee. A nice touch I thought.

Great value for money, comfortable rooms and great service - I would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: High floors are best

Nice hotel with very professional staff. Rooms are good, but can do with a bit more space in the bedroom, but the lounge area makes up for it. Some rooms have nice views of Cape Town and surrounding area. Food is just okay. Great hotel for business stays.

My boyfriend and I spent the last week of December in Protea Hotel Colosseum. Make no mistake about it - this hotel is beautiful. We were very impressed by the intelligently-designed rooms, which are reminiscent of modern lofts in Tokyo. You will have it all here - the rooms and hallways are spotlessly clean, our bed was incredibly comfortable (so much so that waking up was, at times, difficult), the hotel staff was very friendly and consistently helpful in their suggestions, and breakfast is exquisite - fresh juices, milk, meats, fruits, freshly-baked pastries, you name it. We also dined at the hotel's restaurant which was very good, as it features a notably talented chef.

Our only issue was not with the hotel but with its location. It all boils down to preference - are you looking for a quiet and relaxing family getaway, and a peaceful hotel stay? If so, this is certainly the place for you. The surrounding neighborhood is serene, and appears somewhat manufactured (high-end apartments/condos, hotels and malls occupy the land). In fact, the hotel is connected to the Canal Walk mall, allegedly Africa's largest mall, and there is an amusement park very nearby. The hotel is a little out of the way, it is about 15 to 20 minutes away from Cape Town's city center. While we stayed here, we spent so much money on taxi rides into the city center alone - it cost us appx. 160 Rand each way, which comes to appx. $46 for a return trip.

If you are looking for some action, e.g., bars, unique restaurants, quaint boutique-shopping, etc., you are better off staying inside the city center (close to Long Street). Otherwise, this is a perfectly fine establishment, and I thoroughly enjoyed a relaxing stay here.

We stayed in the Colosseum Hotel - it was an unbelievable experience. The rooms are modern, fully furnished for our pleasure. the linnen are out of this world as well as the view of Table Mountain while the sun sets. It is right across the roas from teh Virgin active - I enjoy staying fit and the restaurant have unbelievable food and drinks! I can recommend this hotel to any visitor!
