“Great resort for families and couples”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 June 2014

We just got back from a week's vacation at this resort. We had a great time, would love to visit again. We have two children age 5 and 7, and I was worried that Maldives isn't too kids friendly, but not this place. It tries to cater to both families and couples by having some separated areas for adults and kids like the dining area and the pool.
Some of the things we love about the resort:
1. Kids friendly : One of the main reasons that I picked this resort is the good reviews and the kids club and I am glad I did. My kids love the kids club, they went there everyday after breakfast and sometimes they asked to go back again in the afternoon. The kids-eat-free offer is a big plus as everything is expensive in Maldives, we definitely saved a lot there. It helps to have a kids dining/play area at the Iru restaurant where we eat breakfast everyday, so we can enjoy our breakfast while the kids play.
2. The room : Love the room, especially the bathroom, it was the biggest and best bathroom we have ever seen.
3. The food : The breakfast selection is amazing. So many choices that you won't be bored after a week. We had in room dining often, because we found that more relaxing with the kids, and the food quality is amazing. From seafood pasta to Indian chicken Masala to pizza, all very good.
4. The Snorkeling : unfortunately the water was choppy while we were there, but we managed to go on a snorkeling safari tour where we saw a very nice coral reef. We also tried snorkeling off the dive center at the house reef one morning (in the afternoon it is too wavy). That was so amazing, we saw so many different kinds of fishes, so nice and is free :)
5. Customer service : All the staffs are very friendly and helpful, made us feel very welcomed.
6. Seaplane lounge : The lounge is very comfortable, and is cool to be able to see all the seaplanes arriving and departing. I got a free massage too which was relaxing . Free snacks and drinks are nice after a long flight too :)

We did has a few minor problems but none was huge deal to us, the only problem worth mentioning was that we were expecting someone to greet us upon exiting the airport on arrival but we didn't. After asking around and waited a few minutes, someone came to help us then everything went smoothly.

Overall we had a great time there, we thought this might be once in a lifetime trip, but we might just have to visit again some time in the future.

Here, you're guaranteed plenty of idyllic beachside photographs- but little else.
This resort isle was packed- throughout my entire stay- with tour groups & honeymoon couples.
This isolated, {but not unspoilt} Indian Ocean island resort- does indeed deliver plentiful photo opportunities.
For married couples drunk on love, or readily-available alcohol; the exotic seaside shacks may be exactly what you're looking for.
But as a sober, single gentleman- not exactly my cuppa tea.
There is some serious price gauging going on here.
For example, a spray can of sunblock costs $32 {dollars are the official currency of this island}. Factoring in mandatory tax & service charge; one day's dinner buffet dinner costs $100.
May I bring to your attention, there are ZERO low- cost eating options {ie., diner, grocery store, etc.}
I was told of high boat- shipping charges here. If that's the case; why is a heavy glass bottle of liquid Benadryl available for $6 at the nurse's station?
A box of basic chocolate cookies costs $9.72. A straight razor- $22.
A fresh coconut- growing wild on the island- costs $16.
If only cost were the only major issue here..
My sea- view "villa" sported its own population of giant flying cockroaches. Nasty.
The maintainance crew obligingly came on many- an- occasion, to spray insecticide in & around my beach shack.
Eventually the infestation subsided.
But the neighbor- noise problem, never did.
The circular thatched-roof "villas" are not sound-proofed AT ALL, & are way too closely packed together to block out the cacophony.
The open air bathrooms are nice enough to look at; but provide zero acoustic privacy.
There was a constant barrage of heavy chairs {in neighboring units} dragging against their bare linoleum floors.
Similarly, adjoining beach shack door slamming- was a nearly constant irritant.
As for visual privacy; the patio-front windows are covered by flimsy, somewhat transparent curtains.
Which brings me to the weak unit air-conditioning system. During the day, even with all doors & windows closed, it would usually reach 27°C INSIDE my "villa."
If only the staff were consistently stellar- to cancel out the negatives.
The front desk staff, were friendly & tried to be of utmost service.
However, the housekeepers + restaurant servers + roach sprayer team- tended to be sullen & disrespectful at best.
On weekends & special occasions, loud music wood boom thoughout the island- until 1AM.
Which brings me to the size of the island. I was quoted 45 acres large. Alternately, a website quoted 85 acres. Whichever is correct, it took me no more than half an hour to walk the entire perimetre of the isle.
In balance, there were some definite positive aspects to my stay here.
My favourite aspects were the turquoise- blue water & the verdantly green vegetation.
The tropical sunsets, also did not disappoint.
I have to give credit to the landscaping crew- for adding significantly- to the ambiance here.
Descriptive nature placards- peppered around the islet- were interesting & informative.
Limited wildlife on the island- is truly a treat to behold.
I especially enjoyed the birdlife, the sand-dwelling ghost crabs, & the different- coloured agamid lizards.
Of particular note, are the sizeable numbers of pteropus vampyrus {a giant bat}.
Watching the daytime flights of the seaplanes- was a stimulating experience.
The powder-soft white coral sand, added to the beach allure.
As no cars/lorries/trucks are allowed on the island, all one sees on wheels here- are golf buggies, bicycles, & hand-carts.
I enjoyed watching the various forms of sea vessel- arrive with resort supplies & depart with rubbish.
I know for a fact, {from personal experience} that good tropical beachside resorts are available worldwide- for ALOT less.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback with us following your recent stay. I will be sure to share your comments with my team.

We are happy to know that you certainly managed to enjoy so much the beauty of our island and the friendliness of our staff; from the tropical sunsets to the landscape. The front desk staff will be happy to know that you recognized their interest to always offer to our guests utmost service.

I will review your feedback of the areas of improvement with the operations team. We are always looking to enhance the facilities and ensure the Resort is kept in top condition.

Maldives as a solo traveler may not be an option for you in the future. I do hope you will give us another opportunity if your plans bring you back to the Maldives; however I fully understand should you already have found your favorite location amongst the islands.

Warm regards,
Abdulla Thamheed

I can't recommend this place enough, total luxury but without being over the top. Good choices of places to eat and drink but all are intimate.

We stayed in a water villa (without jacuzzi) and we feel we had the best room option. This part of the island is quieter than the area where the jacuzzi villas are and with the jacuzzi bath with sliding doors over the sea you wouldn't need a jacuzzi outside! Apart from anything it would be far too hot, even at night.

The staff were amazing, food and drink were fab. Some comments say food and drink is expensive but it is all over the Maldives. Every bar has a happy hour (2hrs) when they offer buy one get one free deals, they have wines on specials every day and if you are smart you can make it work for you. The food is worth every penny.

By far one of my best stays. The hotel staff just spoils you rotten from the time you land at ibrahim nasir international airport till the time you leave. The moment you are out of the airport, they will take you to their lounge (enjoy massages, nice snacks, wi fi) and then ensure a smooth transfer via sea plane to the island. We stayed in a water villa and our villa had a host who will brief you and address all your queries. The property is mind blowing. The water villa's are out of this world with breath taking views, awesome bathroom, wi fi. Awesome options in restaurants/food. Also families and couples have been taken care of so well that they don't get into each other's hair - like separate pools and restaurants. So much to do other than snorkeling and diving like sunset fishing, dolphin tour etc. I had the best time of my life and highly recommend this island. It is very expensive but trust me.. its worth every penny. And if you have a budget issue, stay in a garden or beach villa and it should work out fine. The only thing you should be prepared for is delayed buggy service. I hope they get some more buggies.
