“Beautiful cottage. Perfect for families”
Reviewed 15 August 2017 for a stay in July 2016

We stayed for a week in July 2016. During this time there was construction on the main bridge right beside the cottage, but it never bothered us except when we wanted to go to the park and had to drive around (not the fault of the owners. In fact, when Cottage Ontario found out about it, they gave us the opportunity to change cottages, but we decided to stay). The fact that it is so close to the public park is amazing. Plus we loved the private beach and slide on the property. There's lots of trees outside to shade the house, so it never got hot inside and the cross breeze was nice.

Upon entry to the cottage, we noticed it's a very "homey" cottage. We were two families staying here (4 adults and 3 kids - five year old, and 2 two year olds). We loved the size of the cottage itself. The kids had the bunk bed area to themselves, with their own 3 piece bathroom (which was great as we were potty training one of them at the time). This bathroom had a gorgeous stand up shower with stone wall. The beds in the kids room was tucked away far enough that the adults could be playing games/watching TV/talking in the living room or outside on the deck and they wouldn't hear us.

The other two bedrooms were nice, especially the one with the cedar closet (I was very jealous of this closet). The full bathroom was decent, nothing fancy, but it was a bathroom with full tub/shower combo.

The kitchen was very nicely equipped with lots of dinnerware (one recommendation would be nice to have plastic plates and cups for kids), pots, pans and other items you would need for a week stay. The sliding doors leading outside to the deck had one of those "click shut" screens, but it didn't work very well. It always seems to come off the outside wall and we were always having to fix it.

Outside the yard was massive. Very long (probably about the length of a football field), and narrow. There was a swing set and on the deck had a covered/screened gazebo with dining set. We never used the hot tub as one of the adults was pregnant. The beach area was great. The kids loved playing in the sand, and we all loved fishing off the deck (caught a few fish too). We did rent a boat from a resort down the street and docked it at the cottage. Our kids loved going on the paddle boat with the adults, and we also fed the ducks and their little cute duckings. The slide was an added bonus as were the swimming noodles for the kids.

The reason we picked Robins' Nest is because my husband has been coming to Katrine since he was a kid and used to stay at one of the resorts (and still does once a year for a men's fishing trip). But for the price, this was a much better option for two families to stay together. We will definitely be coming back (we've already booked for an extra long weekend in September) and will probably make this an annual trip with my Bro-in-law and his family. We love this cottage and can't wait to come back!

“okay, but underwhelming”
Reviewed 16 January 2017 for a stay in December 2016

Kitchen was bright and well equipped but lacking a personal feel in the welcome and some amenities that we have found in other cottage rentals. The cottage features a wood burning fireplace, however, no wood was stacked inside which meant everything was slightly damp, and there was no kindling provided whatsoever, a dullish axe was available. Seems to be something wrong w/ the flue as even with it opened, smoke came into the house, which accounted for the campfire smell we noted when we first arrived, and unfortunately left with clinging to all of our belongings. Also the barbeque had a tank attached and there was also a second tank, the one attached had only enough fuel to get the barbeque started and the second tank was empty. We started looking quite late for a place to spend a few days after christmas and new years so our options were quite limited, the backyard is huge (long/narrow) but that also means no visible waterfront which is a personal nice-to-have for me in a cottage, it feels a bit more like a house than a cozy, warm, cottage. The booking process with Ontario Cottage Rental was a bit clumsy as many of the cottages they had on their website and were noted as available turned out not to be. All in all, was clean and nice enough, but wouldn't return and wouldn't be my top choice for a referral to a friend.

Dear Jason, I'm sorry to hear about the firewood not being dry and the BBQ tank empty. I had dry wood in the cottage prior to your visit that was used by another renter. As far as the back yard you can view the yard in the pictures of the cottage and see that it's long/narrow. I hope your next trip is better managed. Thank you for your feed back. Robin
