Our favorite place to go for special occasions ... just there last night for our 47th anniversary. The food is always terrific. We love the atmosphere. I get tired of the loud and crowder steak places. The biggest problem is finding it.

We have been around the Lake of the Ozarks for years. We've seen a lot of restaurants come and go. J Bruner's is our favorite place to eat if we're in the mood for steak or seafood.

This is a "local" place. The same people wait on you visit after visit. It's not fancy. Not a lot of ambiance. But the food is consistently good. Try the onions rings. You can thank me later. The salad dressings are spectacular, as are the homemade croutons. My wife gets the strip steak and calls it the best she's ever had. I've had the filet, which is exceptional, and the salmon, which is very good. Their fried lobster is out of this world.

If you go in expecting atmosphere like a fancy, big city steakhouse, you will be disappointed. This is the lake, not KC or STL. Also, if you go in expecting an inexpensive meal, you will be in for some sticker shock.

If you want a great meal with great service and you don't mind paying for it, try J. Bruners.

We went here for the first time this past summer. We heard great things about their steak and it was to die for. The fried lobster was omg just amazing melt in your mouth delicious. It was pricey but so worth it. The waiter was great. We will be going back every time we visit the Ozarks.

Rated highly in the area and by others in the restaurant who were dining while we were eating, J. Bruner was a big disappointment to us. Overpriced, too. I ordered French Onion Soup. The traditional little tureen of beefy onion soup came overlaid with a large piece of sandwich bread toasted with a minimum of cheese on top, not so good. My husband ordered Steak Soup, which had plenty of beef in a thin broth, another disappointment. We both ordered a ribeye steak, expecting the steakhouse to shine in this area. We are accustomed to restaurant ribeye steaks to be at least 3/4 inches thick in order to be cooked properly. We exchanged shocked looks when our 1/2 inch steaks arrived. To their credit, my rare steak actually came out as ordered. But both steaks were tough and tasteless. The service was fine. The atmosphere was dark, with black and other dark colors predominating. Our dining room had a TV in the corner with a fish tank DVD looping through, pretty kitschy. Bottom line, our $90+ meal without drinks was not the dining experience we are used to at that price.

First visit. Great Steaks and sides. Good wine list. No atmosphere. Small pour cocktail - $10. Won't be back.
