We were looking for someplace quiet to just have a romantic get-a-weekend for the two of us, very quiet and isolated, so much so we didn't have cell phone service (don't worry, you can leave the front desk number with family to reach you). Stayed in the Lighthouse cabin, had a big King bed, kitchen and a small table to have breakfast while over looking the lake.
This is a quiet 'mom & pop' (and Holly the dog) run camp ground. several themed cabins. They have a web site, http://www.bluewatersresort.net or google them and add Protem Missouri.
The lake level is way down but the water was calm and we enjoyed a nice camp fire on the shore line. Even thad two deer wander down to check on us. Billions of stars in the night sky and so quiet, really quiet...every once in a while you might hear the woodpeckers. Be sure to have a small snack in the morning for Holly as she makes her rounds.
We visited in Mid November, a little chilly and we missed the changing of the leaves...we'll head back in the late spring or summer to enjoy boating on the lake (Bull Shoals).
It's a long drive if your coming from Kansas City, but the peace and quiet was well worth the trip.More
