Owner description: Historic District St. Charles: 16 blocks of shopping, dining and lodging in historic, restored structures on the banks of the Missouri River. Settlement dates to 1769.

The historic district is a long street with may quaint shops and restaurants. Very picturesque. We went on an early Saturday evening and found nearly everything closed other than a few restaurants. Very surprised but a lesson for those in the future to check the main open times.

This is a nice place to go and stroll around and look at little nick knacks and find specialty stores. When people come to visit we always take them here. The cobble stone streets make you feel like you are in a different time. There are often events going on.
Car shows, ice carving, street fairs and Christmas events.
Stores that stock items from around the world. Lots of restaurants to choose from, some with very pretty outdoor setting areas

Whether you live in St. Charles or are visiting St. Louis, make this trip! Main Street is one of the few streets in America left like this - cobblestone streets and big brick buildings dating back to the 1800s. Stop at the Old Mill Stream Inn for a beer, eat lunch or dinner on the incomparable patio of Magpie Cafe, grab a coffee at Figuero's and a cookie from Grandma's Cookies. Now that's a great day!

The historic district in St. Charles has something for everyone. This is my hometown, so I spend a lot of time browsing historic Main Street. There are antiques shops, craft stores, great restaurants and bars for some night life. There is a wonderful spice shop where you can find anything, sweet shops, and an old time sode fountain. There Re several clothing and specialty stores. You can visit Missouri's first state Capitol buildings and if you like gaming action, the Ameristar is located at the end of the district. You can definitely spend a very full day here, but to really experience the district fully, plan a weekend getaway.

The historic district is simply charming; antique shops, boutiques and a variety of restaurants to please every taste. There is ample to keep everyone occupied for hours. The architecture is a joy, takes you back two hundred years to when St Charles was Missouri first Capitol. Although I always prefer warm summer days to stroll the streets, don't miss the Christmas decorations in the winter.
