I went with friends to St. Charles during my St. Louis stay. It was such a cute area. Plenty of street parking & tons of shops & bars! Well worth the slight drive to see something different!

With the fast pace we now travel, it's relaxing to visit here. With the brick streets, old buildings and laid back charm, it's hard not to relax and slow down. Great places to eat, neat shops of all kinds, with a little bit of history and quaint surroundings.

Brick streets and sidewalks, dating from long ago, make it impossible to anything more than mosey up and down the main street of historic St. Charles. Entering every open shop revealed myriad unique gifts and places to eat. I was impressed with the genuine friendliness of shop owners and staff. Everyone seemed to have plenty of time to talk about their shop, its history and the special events planned for the summer in the town. So close to St. Louis and so far away in time visiting the first capital of Missouri while visiting the current capital connects one through time. A lovely afternoon.

Some days it is nice to stroll down a small town Main Street. St Charles many years ago wad the first Capitol of Missouri. The buildings are preserved and can be toured. It takes you back to a simpler time. Flowers and trees line the brick sidewalks. Shops and restaurants have something to interest everyone. The Missouri river is alongside. When you are tired of the sttreet scale, walk a short block to the riverfront. Sit on a park bench to watch the river flow by-maybe play a little frisbee in the park or grab a quick nap. The theme is relaxation.
