“Riverfront Park still affected by last years flood”
Review of Riverfront Park

Riverfront Park
Ranked #21 of 48 things to do in Saint Joseph
Attraction details

The flood of 2011 still has the bridge on the south end closed, and the grounds at Remington Nature Center are still covered in sand/dirt. We did not walk along the Riverfront, so not sure what kind of condition the path is in.

This trail is not in Kansas City as the Map shows, but actually in downtown St. Joseph. It is a nice trail, and the North parking area by the casino is the best for parking. I've never been in contact with any vagrants there, as mentioned by a previous post.

This is nicest in spring and fall and definitely a day time thing-don't go down here at night except in a locked car, ok? The south parking lot is pretty worn, so you might want to park in the North lot by the casino and the beautiful new nature center. Take the walk down beside the river, then come back and go to the nature center-the walk is lovely and there are a few informational plaques detailing the history of the area.

The area has recently been flooded and the steps and park area will need some work. The worst part was as we got out of our car the many vagrant people who were hanging out there were approaching anyone who happened to drive up. We were with our two young children, thinking it was a safe place, but we did not feel safe at all. The people hanging around did not look reputable or safe to us. We did not stay. I hope this gets cleaned up in the future too. We could see a nice bike path and would have loved to take advantage of that but will not be going back.

Right now, work is underway to complete a magnificent new attraction along the bank of the Missouri River, in St. Joseph, Missouri.
So far, a mile long concrete hike/bike trail is in place, with many historic markers in place along the way. There are wetlands observation areas along the walkway, plus a few overlooks of the river itself.
The work there is ongoing, with more being planned and added constantly.
I would highly advise anyone planning to visit St. Joseph Missouri, to make it a point to check on progress of the Riverfront Park, as a new nature and wildlife center is now being planned there also.
