Attraction details
Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: The Museum of Westward Expansion closed, pending installation of all new museum exhibits. As of March 2, 2015, entry-only ticket or tram ticket required to enter Arch. The nation's tallest monument at 630 feet, the Gateway Arch has beckoned visitors since June 1967. The Gateway Arch commemorates Thomas Jefferson and the role St. Louis played in the westward expansion of the United States. A visit to St. Louis isn't complete without standing at the Arch's base and playing professional photographer, but the view from the outside is only half of the experience. Attractions within the Arch include the Journey to the Top (the last tram leaves one hour before closing); educational programs (will be housed at the Old Courthouse); award-winning documentary movie, Monument to the Dream; and a gift shop. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Note: the address shown is for the Old Courthouse which is acting as the Gateway Arch Ticketing and Visitor Center throughout construction. Pedestrian entrance to the Arch Grounds is at Walnut Street at Memorial Drive or via the Grand Staircase from the riverfront.

Nice views. Would like to see more done with the river area around the Archgrounds.

Yes, you should go to the top of the Arch -- then you don't have to do it again. The capsule is cramped and the view isn't all that great but it is a one-of-a-kind structure and an engineering marvel. The museum about the opening of the Western frontier at the base is excellent and if you have time, enjoy the movies.

The Arch signals the gateway to the West. And this symbol is amazing. The best part of the Arch to me, is the museum underneath the Arch grounds. It explains the building of the arch, the history of Missouri and there is a gift shop also. It makes a great place to visit on a hot day to cool off and shop for some St. Louis Arch gifts for yourself and loved ones.

They Arch and Museum tour were awesome, they even have a neat scavenger hunt for the little ones that gets them a prize when they complete it, make sure you experience this tour on your visit!

You can't go to St. Louis and not go to the top of the Arch. Make sure you make reservations - it gets you right in line at the time of your reservation.

The capsule to the top is just that... a capsule. Its small so if you are closterphobic, you may have issues. On a clear day, you can see for miles.

Enjoy!
