Owner description: Don't take the name so literally. We're about fun. Not your white walls, walk around, and be quiet museum. If you want to climb around, get active with your kids or are a big kid at heart, we're the place. If you get freaked out easily, you might not want to come. We're four floors filled with miles of tunnels, a full cave system, over 30 slides, a circus, an arts area, a large outdoor climbing space, Architectural Museum, a Cabin that serves adult beverages, a Museum of Mayhem, Mirth and Mystery, and a ton more. Also, there's the roof with a Ferris Wheel and a bus hanging off its edge.

“Not good for little kids but neat place”
Reviewed 24 May 2011

This is a neat place, but not for kids under the age of 8, this is best suited for children between the ages of 8-14. It is a one of kind place with lots of activities. A family should plan at least a half day here.

“Not a Gem”
Reviewed 17 May 2011

The place looked run down from the outside. While inside it seems like a lot of places are just big and empty. The aquarium is not what you think, an extra $6 and it is dirty with mostly little tanks or cages. The biggest attraction is very dirty and hard to see, the only good thing about it is that the sea turtles usually are swimming right by the windows. The 10 story slide is very uncomfortable and not a fun feeling after you get off. There are other places in the city worth seeing. I am sure little kids enjoy it a lot.

“Kids loved it and we enjoyed it just as much”
Reviewed 12 May 2011

We have a 3, 5 and 7 year old and had heard about the City Museum from some friends so had an idea of what it was like, but it exceeded our expectations. We went on a Friday night at 6:00 so there was a lot of teenagers at the museum, but it was never an issue. The kids loved all of the different slides and tunnels they could climb through both outside on the side of the building as well as inside. The cave inside was amazing and a lot of people had flashlights that we did not bring, but would be great to have when it gets dark to explore. The cave area has a slide that goes down 11 stories. They have a few things you can walk thru and look at and read about like a normal museum, but most is a huge play area and that is where our kids wanted to stay. For some people that may be clean freaks they have a couple ball pits that look a little grimey and we didn't go in there, but other than that it was the highlight of our St Louis trip (Other than the Brewers beating the Cardinals). The kids asked about going back the rest of the weekend. Will be on our list to visit next time we go back.

“St. Louis's City Museum”
Reviewed 2 May 2011

Located in downtown St. Louis, MO this family friendly attraction boasts historic architectural pieces, play areas for all ages and exhibits to energize, excite and invoke thought. This local attraction invites the young and old to climb through tunnels, enjoy amazing artwork, interact with wildlife, and showcase a unique spellbinding place to escape. Make sure you allocate plenty of time to this activity to ensure you don’t miss anything. There are so many nooks and crannies within the building and outside of the building, that you may miss something if you are in a hurry. The attraction is one of the few in the area which requires admission to get in, but it is worth every penny.

“A fun and exciting place for the whole family! Definitely worth visiting!”
Reviewed 20 April 2011

If you're in St. Louis and you've done the Forest Park attractions but still want something unique and fun for the family, I highly recommend the City Museum. My husband and I are in our 40s and we met his brother's family (2 boys 8 and 11 years old) there. We grown-ups were fascinated by the way that the whole place has been put together with various salvaged pieces from the city. There are some architectural displays on the upper floor that we more serious history buffs enjoyed quite a bit, too. The kids had a great time climbing in and over and around everything (and so did we "old people!)". There's a lot to explore and everything has a pretty "safe" feel to it. It was a great way to spend the afternoon and allowed the kids a place to run off some energy. It's a pretty noisy environment, but loads of fun! Put it on your itenerary!
