After you have been searched, airport style, to get into the 'under arch' area this museum is available - free of charge. It's got loads of exhibits - a bit of a strange sequence, but nevertheless well worth a visit if you have any interest in the Westward Expansion.

This is a large museum. It was good and filled with lots of info/artifacts but a lot of reading was required to really understand all of the exhibits. My kids enjoyed it, but I don't think they got as much out of it because they started to tune out. It was FREE though and I enjoyed it.

The museum under the arch was neat to see once, but I wouldn't do it again. For those who love the history of Indians, treaties, and how the west was formed through conflict and coins it might be worth a trip. I was lost. The artifacts are good. It took about an hour to see everything.

Had a few hours to kill in St Louis and wandered around the Arch only to find the museum housed in the building under the Arch. Generally not a big museum fan but I found this place captivating. There's plenty of history about the expansion of the Western US as well as a well laid out documentation of Lewis and Clark's expedition. And the best part is, it's free.

We thoroughly enjoyed this museum under the Gateway Arch. It's not huge, but they pack a lot into a small area. The circular pattern of the museum is unusual, and exhibits were well done. Definitely worth the time while visiting the Gateway Arch!
