Go to the Bassilica in St. Louis. It rivaled those we have seen in Europe. We were lucky enough to go while the organist was preparing for mass.

“Simply Amazing!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 August 2011

My wife and our young son stopped here after leaving the zoo and were amazed at the beauty and grandeur af this cathedral.

We visited mid-day on a Monday and were easily able to park on the street right next to the entrance. We only stayed for a short period, maybe ten minutes, but it was enough to take in the major features of the church. Our next trip to St. Louis we plan on stopping again to spend a bit more time.

“Amazing, MUST DO!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 July 2011

Well we are not catholic and this would be the LAST thing I would think my 17 year old son would enjoy but let me tell you we ALL loved it! You just can't understand without seeing it how intricate and painstaking the work that was put into this amazing place was! Its a work of art through and through and religious or not you can't deny there is a presence of a miracle at work here!
View it from a spiritual place or an artistic mind set or just the sheer SIZE of the structure you will have to leave impressed!
I was in awe of the confessionals and the candle alters. The gift shop was small but had lovely items. I did not go into the museum but my kids did and said it was alright. I wish we had more time to explore the area outside of the cathedral as it was also beautiful.
Each tile in the mosaics is no more than an inch although probably a half inch square - to think that over 20 artists took the time and energy for over 70 years to create this is just mind boggling!
GO !!!
They do ask for a donation to view the museum but it is only around 3.00 if memory serves.
There is an asked for donation of 1.00 to light a candle but its free to go in and look all around the cathedral itself!

“Mosaic Wonderland”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 May 2011

Very much worth a stop. Go on the tour. Basement ok but spending time upstairs is the best. Sit a while and try to take in all 7,000 shades of color. You won't be disappointed!

“Absolutely spectacular- breathtakingly beautiful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 May 2011

What a beaufifully designed structure. With seating fort 3000 and 7600 organ pipes, the interior is breathtaking. It literally leaves you speechless. If in the St. Louis area, make it a priority to spend 30-45 minutes at this cathedral. You will not be disappointed. The mosaics are some of the finest in the world.
