The mosaics are breathtakingly beautiful and the cathedral is amazing. There is a small museum downstairs (for a small fee) that tells some of the history of the cathedral and how the mosaics were completed. Plus has a few relics of the church. Didn't have time for the tour, but would love to go back and take it.

We did the tour on Wednesday morning and stayed for Mass at 12:05. Such a beautiful building inside and out. The mosaics tell the church's story beautifully. So much thought went into their creation. We visited the Mosaic Museum in the basement where the process of creating mosaic tile is detailed. There were also artifacts from Pope John Paul II's visit in 1999. It was my wife's favorite stop on our St. Louis vacation. A must see for Catholics and non-Catholics alike.

We took the tour after their mass on Sunday and were delighted. The beauty and history of the Basilica was indescribably. To think Cardinal Glennon had the vision to build this masterpiece years ago, is unimaginable. The millions of tiles and marble placed so appropriately everywhere in this cathedral is too brilliant for words.

The Cathedral was well worth the visit. We took the tour and it was very good, very informative and educational, especially about the architecture. There is parking in the back. The last tour is at 3:00 pm and we had made reservations prior to our trip, but others joined our group. Tour guide was very good. Tour lasted about an hour. They have a gift shop, but it closes at 4:00 and was closed when our tour finished. We were disappointed about that, perhaps they should stay open until 4:30 to accomodate the people taking the tours.

My family and I attended the Saturday evening mass while on vacation. The mass was more traditional then our church at home which was nice to see. The beauty of the Basilica is amazing. I've never seen anything like it. After the mass, people stayed and took pictures. The mosaic tiles and colors are definitely something to see. Don't think there is any other church like it in the U.S.
