Owner description: The Missouri Civil War Museum is housed in the old 1905 Jefferson Barracks Post Exchange (PX) and Gymnasium building, formerly part of the Jefferson Barracks military post, which is still an active military installation to this day. Renovations began in 2003, and were completed 10 years later in 2013, with an opening date of June 29, 2013. During the Civil War, the property which this museum is located upon, contained various hospital ward buildings, where suffering and death occurred, thus making this sacred ground, and a most appropriate location for a Missouri Civil War Museum, honoring our soldiers of the past and present.

Wow what a great place. Nicely laid out. A truly hidden gem. A great place for any history buff. The staff is very nice and helpful.

I've visited this museum twice, the first time being about a month after they had opened. Since opening they have added dozens of items to their display. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and you get to watch a movie about the building's past and learn of future plans for the museum. I like how comprehensive and cleanly displayed Missouri's history is captured there. It's more than just about the Civil War--its a lesson on what led to the War, its aftermath, and on what other sites relative to the War are waiting for us to visit.

It's a 90-minute adventure back into Missouri's history that is well worth the admission price!

This is not a large Museum and takes about two hours to see it all. There is a fee to get in, $7 for adults. It is well worth the time and cost. Growing up in Missouri we were never taught about how important Missouri was concerning the war All that was really taught was about the Dred Scott case. Go to the Museum and find out the real role Missouri played in the war, I think you will be surprised.

Great little museum.... Wouldn't rank in top 10. It took us 30 minutes to read all the cards and be done..... If you watch the movies it would take longer

This is a very beautiful place that has been restored and has some great exhibits. The only thing that i would like to see would be more lights on the middle exhibits in the large area. It is so dark you really can't even read the descriptions on them. The side exhibits have alot of lighting and are very well put together, the middle area is the only thing lacking. Restrooms and gift shop areas are great. Would love to go back again.
