Owner description: The Missouri Civil War Museum is housed in the old 1905 Jefferson Barracks Post Exchange (PX) and Gymnasium building, formerly part of the Jefferson Barracks military post, which is still an active military installation to this day. Renovations began in 2003, and were completed 10 years later in 2013, with an opening date of June 29, 2013. During the Civil War, the property which this museum is located upon, contained various hospital ward buildings, where suffering and death occurred, thus making this sacred ground, and a most appropriate location for a Missouri Civil War Museum, honoring our soldiers of the past and present.
Useful Information: Wheelchair access, Bathroom facilities, Stairs / lift

We stopped on a whim and were very impressed. I wish the upstairs would have been open. The displays are interesting and informative. I especially liked the Studebaker wagon. We are planning a return trip.

Thank you for visiting us here at the Missouri Civil War Museum, and for taking the time to write a review. We appreciate and respect each and every review. Although, we feel that you might be confusing us with one of the other museums located very near to us, which are run by St. Louis County Parks here at Jefferson Barracks, and which have various military themes from various time periods. So, we’re thinking that you’re confusing us with one of those other military museums. Every artifact and every exhibit in this museum pertains to the American Civil War, with a focus on Missouri’s role in the war, and we welcome you back for another visit to confirm this for yourself. Thanks again for visiting.

I've visited this museum twice, the first time being about a month after they had opened. Since opening they have added dozens of items to their display. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and you get to watch a movie about the building's past and learn of future plans for the museum. I like how comprehensive and cleanly displayed Missouri's history is captured there. It's more than just about the Civil War--its a lesson on what led to the War, its aftermath, and on what other sites relative to the War are waiting for us to visit.

It's a 90-minute adventure back into Missouri's history that is well worth the admission price!

This is not a large Museum and takes about two hours to see it all. There is a fee to get in, $7 for adults. It is well worth the time and cost. Growing up in Missouri we were never taught about how important Missouri was concerning the war All that was really taught was about the Dred Scott case. Go to the Museum and find out the real role Missouri played in the war, I think you will be surprised.
