Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: The Missouri Civil War Museum is housed in the old 1905 Jefferson Barracks Post Exchange (PX) and Gymnasium building, formerly part of the Jefferson Barracks military post, which is still an active military installation to this day. Renovations began in 2003, and were completed 10 years later in 2013, with an opening date of June 29, 2013. During the Civil War, the property which this museum is located upon, contained various hospital ward buildings, where suffering and death occurred, thus making this sacred ground, and a most appropriate location for a Missouri Civil War Museum, honoring our soldiers of the past and present.

“Great museum in restored historical building”
Reviewed 16 August 2014

This Civil War Museum is a recent addition to the area. It is located in a 1905 building at Jefferson Barracks. The restoration is top notch and compliments the artifacts on display. We look forward to returning as the museum complex continues to evolve.

“nice in its own right, and part of a great complex”
Reviewed 15 August 2014

It's small, but well done and has an especially impressive collection of medical paraphernalia among its other items. The Missouri Civil War Museum offers a perspective that goes beyond what is generally covered in the history books. It is funded and operated by private donations and the gift shop, and they are in the process of turning the building next door into a research library. There are also several other museums located on the Jefferson Barracks grounds, as well as the National Cemetery. In all, well worth the visit.

“Excellent artifacts”
Reviewed 10 August 2014

Well put together with a nice combination of artifacts and videos on the civil war in MO. The museum kept my 12 year old Grandson interested and asking questions. The exhibits were well done with good descriptions.

The location at Jefferson Barracks also has other interesting things to see in the old fort area.

“Civil War afficionados visiting St. Louis -- don't miss it!”
Reviewed 10 August 2014

We had a wonderful visit to St. Louis, finding a great museum with interesting artifacts and "west of the Missippi" heritage of the Civil War.

“Interesting”
Reviewed 10 August 2014 via mobile

The employee knew good information of the town and what goes on in his museum too. We enjoyed it a lot. The gift store had items with the museum's name on it and based around what was in the exhibits.
