“Not the best choice on a busy weekend in STL”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 June 2014

My boyfriend stayed in STL for two nights, during a weekend that was coincidentally when the Cardinals played and the Susan G. Komen 5k occurred. The hotel was booked up and we were left with a room right next to the elevator. I tried to change rooms but was unable to do so. Nothing was wrong with the accommodations but it was incredibly noisy. Guests heading to the elevator were not courteous and we were woken up early both mornings. And there are only two elevators for 14 floors. It was nearly impossible to get an elevator without waiting a while or it being jam-packed with people. I won't be choosing this hotel again.

We stayed here for two nights. Check in was quick and friendly. We had a room at the top on floor eleven and it was super. Big room, very clean and had everything you needed.Lifts were quick. As we were on a road trip we used the laundry room which was easy, and had iron and board in room to complete. There was always hot coffee available in the reception or cold drinks which was used often. The breakfast was good with a good selection. Parking was easy and free. Quite a long walk to the arch, but we enjoy walking so it was ok. Wonderful city with really friendly helpful people. Caught the metro a couple times which is just down the road within a nice small mall. Went up the arch, fantastic and on the Tom Sayer paddle boat which was fun and worth doing. Had a really great time here and would recommend this hotel. Only downside, nothing to do with hotel, but on walk to downtown passed quite a few homeless people in the parks asking for money.

Room Tip: Top floor with great views

Enjoyed our stay at the Pear Tree Union Station. Check-in was quick and efficient, desk staff friendly. Room was larger than expected, very clean, and included small refrigerator. We were within walking distance of downtown area, Busch Stadium, Gateway Arch, etc. Breakfast was good with a variety of hot foods as well as the usual. We would definitely stay here again, but probably ask for a room at the back of the hotel next time. The loud music from the bar/outside patio of the club across the street made it a little difficult to sleep one night..

My husband and I went to the Cardinals game on 6/3. We live about 2 hrs away and are very familiar with St. Louis but we had never stayed here. There is a Sybergs on the property that has a bus that will take you to the game for $2 per person! They brought us back too! Older hotel but rooms have been decently renovated. Beds are comfortable. Nice shower but small bathrooms. Decent price. Sybergs has great food too!. We will be back!

The Pear Tree Inn was a fine hotel to stay in St. Louis. It is convenient to the Gateway Arch and other downtown sights. This makes it a good choice for the traveler to St. Louis. The hotel was clean but not well appointed. However the price was right so it worked for us.

We've stayed here twice so far and will be staying again. My daughter has to go to st Louis children's hospital for surgeries and treatment and since we live 6 hours away, we stay here. The hotel gives us a great discount because we are there for treatment. It's right in the middle of everything, it's nice and clean, it has refrigerators and microwaves in every room, good hot breakfast, secure parking, and free popcorn and drinks!!! What else could you ask for in a hotel? We haven't been to the pool yet, but plan to in the future :)

We stayed here over the Memorial Day Weekend and had some pretty high expectations for the $163 a night price tag. Our expectations plummeted at check in. The gentleman at the front desk swiped our credit card multiple times, causing it to eventually decline. He had somehow missed that it had been accepted prior to declining. We were rather confused when he said our credit card had declined and ended up using much of our vacation cash to pay for the room. We spent nearly a half an hour on the phone with out bank, which confirmed that the card had been run several times and had processed. We went back in and talked to the front desk staff, who continued to insisted it had never processed. Finally the front desk manager said he would call his IT department and look into it. Some time later called us and said that we were correct and he would give our cash back, making the comment that "we are only as good as our computers". When he did meet us, during dinner at the on site restaurant (Sybergs), to return our cash, he continued to make light of the event. After a very long day of driving, the last thing I expected was to be embarrassed at check with an unexpected credit card decline and the ensuing stress of "figuring it out" and then trying to convince them to take a closer look at the transaction. There was no offer to make up for the stress/anxiety that they had caused.

As far as the amenities:

Parking was free. It was a small parking garage just behind the hotel. If you are not unloading/loading your luggage at the drive up overhang, it will be a pain to walk through the garage with your luggage.

Rooms were clean and average. In our room, their was no vanity/sink outside the bathroom (it was in the bathroom, like at home). Hair dryer, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner provided. No plastic laundry bag. Towels were some of the thinnest I have seen at a hotel. Beds were comfy. The view wasn't spectacular, but it was better than the backside of a parking lot. I liked that the windows were tinted, so you could keep the windows open and without being seen from the outside.

Manager's reception was sparse...pretzels, tortilla chips and salsa along with your drink card, good for three drinks within the time frame. Choices: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Zinfandel and Budweiser (maybe it Bud Lite, I can't remember). I had Merlot for two drinks, but they ran out of it and I had the Cabernet for my last drink. Both were okay. Watching other people, I learned that they did not let you get your drink and someone else's, nor could you use someone else's card after exhausting yours, each person had to redeem their own card.

The pool are was nice enough and our 10 year old niece had a blast swimming in the three feet/four feet and five feet sections. We had hoped to get in the whirlpool, but it had been overtaken by a group of kids splashing around in it and running out other users. Pool towels were provided.

The morning breakfast was great. Scrambled eggs, sausage patties, biscuits, gravy, bagels, toast, muffins, doughnuts, waffle station (in a separate room just to the side of the breakfast area), grits packets, oatmeal packet, hot chocolate packet, bananas, oranges, coffee, soda and juice. The morning dining room staff (Pearline, I think) was super; genuinely sweet. The only drawback to breakfast is that the dining room tables are tiny.

All in all there were some great things (breakfast and free parking) and some average things (the room) and some disappointing things (whirlpool, manager reception snacks). For the price, there should have been much more great things.

*Our check in experience took this review from a 3 star review to 2. Mistakes happen, but to dismiss us, then make light of it when we are right and blame "the computer" wasn't the proper response. Especially without offering to make up for it in any way.
