The tall imposing Fine Art Palace of the World Fair of 1904, was retained to house the art museum.
At the entrance of the imposing building in the midst of the verdant Forest Park, one is greeted by the majestic , equestrian statue of the French emperor, Louis the xiv , for whom the city was named as St. Louis.
One of the most comprehensive art museums in the US, the Saint Louis art museum is well worth a visit to see and enjoy specimens of art collected from all over the world , covering different periods cultures and different art forms, from the ancient Chinese, Japanese to the modern contemporary abstract art forms. Admission to the museum is free on all days as also for the cultural shows, theatrical performances and film shows.. Not only the art lovers, but students from universities are seen listening to tutors, studying the specimens, taking notes or capturing the images. Visit the art museum not only to view the objects of art but also to enjoy the beautiful and tranquil environment of Forest Park.

The landing is only about a block in size, and is home to restaurants and bars. It is within easy walking distance from the arch, and the food is pretty good here. The restaurants have some nice outdoor seating, and some bars even have shuttles to the Cards games. This isn't anything special, but the brick buildings and cobble stone streets provide a nice atmosphere.

Laclede's Landing has a historic background, but that's not apparent upon walking through. There's nothing there now but restaurants and bars, many of them terribly overcrowded. The Old Spaghetti Factory is one of the few that I consider to be worthy of a visit. The Landing is within walking distance of the Arch, so can be a convenient diversion afterwards.

Just like the other recent posts, don't go out of your way. If you are in the area visiting the Arch, there is a convenient parking garage which costs $6 for the entire day. It's a short walk to the Arch and then Laclede's Landing is on the opposite side of that parking garage. If you are in the area and are looking for a bite to eat, there are several restaurants, many of which have outdoor seating (although right on the street). Nothing to write home about and no big deal if you miss it. We ate at Hannegan's which was fine, good service, good food, but not an enormous menu and nothing truly memorable. We also ate at Joey B's and enjoyed the variety of finger foods and pizzas. Young adults and groups of girls celebrating bachelorette parties wandered from bar to bar. Not too memorable and we wouldn't feel compelled to go back.

We walked down to the riverfront after having ice cream. It was fun to see the bridges and the River area. We found some parking and just walked around for 30 min.
