Frankly, we had some time to kill before we went to the brewery, and this was on our way. It's interesting, but not incredible.

I've been to many historical homes and buildings, but the tour for this one was outstanding. The guide was extremely knowledgeable and packed in a huge amount of information, but he did it in an interesting way. The house has some unusual items that are not normally seen, and the tour included information related to early St. Louis.

This is a fascinating place that dates back to St. Louis beginnings. The staff and lots of volunteers were there the day I visited and they were super helpful. They have a passion for history and were happy to tell our group all about the people who have lived in the mansion over the years. They have some interesting events listed on their website. They raise money to help maintain the house.

We had previously visited this historic home, but were back in the area and decided to re-visit to take a look at the Christmas decorations in the house. A good decision! This home is truly a hidden gem, as mentioned by previous reviewers. It's a shame it seems to attract so few visitors. We were the only visitors for a tour on an early Saturday afternoon. The upside is that we got our excellent and knowledgable guide all to ourselves.

I cannot say enough about our guide. She was incredibly knowledgable, even about general St. Louis history that did not directly involve the home. She took the time to answer our varied questions, but still gave us the entire planned tour as well. The house itself is showing some decay, although everything is being beautifully preserved to the extent possible. The Worlds Fair exhibit is fascinating as well. Overall, this is, hands-down, an extraordinary historic home and one of my favorite "off the beaten track" places in St. Louis.

The absolute best guided tour EVER. Myself along with my 9 & 10 year old were enamored the entire time the docent was speaking. Countless times we looked at each other in amazement at what we were learning. (Our jaws dropped hearing how women of the day took small doses of arsenic to keep their skin color as white as possible) We were allowed to ask any questions that we wanted, which made the hour and a half we were there completely interactive. (It helped that it was just the docent and the 3 of us) Every corner of the house is filled with period appropriate furnishings, much of it belonging to the DeMenil family. Absolutely fabulous! Ending up paying more than the price of admission to contribute to such a devoted group of preservationists.
