“A hotel with some charecter!”
Reviewed 14 September 2013

Like many of you I travel a lot for business and the hotels I stay at are pretty much the same. The last couple of years I have stayed at the St. Louis Union Station hotel which was a Doubletree this year (a Marriott last year). The hotel is located in an old train station and the architecture and layout are really special. There is an attached shopping mall (nothing special there) and is convenient to restaurants and Busch Stadium (home of the Cardinals - went to a game- awesome ballpark!). If you can stay on the executive floor they have a great lounge with good food choices (and good food) and friendly, helpful staff. The station is currently being renovated but that didn't take away from the experience. If you want something a little different than the norm...stay here.

Room Tip: Executive floor. It is worth the extra money.

This historic hotel is really in a great location, has a few shoppes in it, was within walking distance to downtown, ballpark, arch and restaurants. The areas we walked down Market Street we felt safe. The Staff is very friendly, always saying hello to you. Newspapers of all sorts at front desk, valet staff courteous and friendly. My only complaint is the layout of the hotel and the myriad of elevators and steps one needs to go through to get to your room. The Lobby is beautiful as it was an old train station in its day. This city with its neighborhoods I could live in.

Room Tip: Ask for one closer to the elevators.

The DoubleTree Union Station is right off of the metro line and just a few stops from the Cardinals Statium and the Arch. It's near Schlafly Taproom and City Museum, among other walking distance restaurants. However - you will see lots of security around the metro and plenty of ...down-on-their-luck folk, if you get my drift. The hotel staff greet you on your way in and out, the beds are fantastic (although the walls are a little thin). The lobby IS AMAZING.

This classic old hotel was lovely and the staff friendly, helpful, and attentive. We liked the availability of complimentary bottles of water every day. The rooms were very nice, but housekeeping service was sporadic. Out of our 4 night stay, two of our group had to call for rooms to be made up at 5:00 - twice. Once they came, but the second time mine never did get done. It was the last day, and we'd been out all day. When we came back to get ready for dinner, my beds were still unmade, no fresh towels, no more coffee supplies, etc. I didn't call, but the other member of our party did, and they came to clean hers - right across the hall from mine. Even though we saw the housekeeper in the hall, for some reason they just skipped the last two rooms. ???

Excellent staff and facility. They were very helpful in recommending things to do and places to visit. The staff accommodated several special room requests without issue. The hotel is a beautiful renovated 19th century train station. The pool is large. The hotel is a great place for kids and families.

We stayed a couple weeks ago with another couple. Upon arrival, we were greeted by very friendly staff at check-in. We were very impressed by the beauty of the hotel upon arrival. The stained glass and ambiance of the whole hotel is breath taking. I was a little skeptical before we arrived because we got such a good price on the room, but we were absolutely blown away!!! We had only booked one night so we got up the next morning and checked out. We did some fun things around town and decided that we didn't get to spend enough time in this wonderful hotel so we went back to check in for another night. We went to our new room and found that it was as clean and nice as our room the first night. We spent that evening by the pool which is also breath taking. It was a beautiful setting and very clean pool! All of the staff were super friendly. I would DEFINITELY recommend this hotel for anyone visiting the St. Louis area. We will never stay anywhere else when we go to St. Louis!!!
