“Packed with visitors but great service and convenience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 July 2012

We visited over the 4th of July holiday and the hotel was packed with visitors to the Fair St Louis as well as Cardinal fans. Its in a terrific location downtown with a half block walk out the back door from the west wing to the Veiled Prophet Parade route and three blocks from the Arch park. Of course, its directly across the street from the baseball park.

Our room was 726, a double double in the west wing and this had a lot of advantages. The elevators (which I'll mention in a minute) seemed to be less swamped than the east wing and they deposited you next to a back entrance which had easy access to restaurants, the ball park and the parade route.

We arrived around 10pm - after a 12 hour car ride - just as the Cardinal's game was finished and the lobby was overrun with fans lined up to go to the rooftop 360 bar on one tiny elevator. It was a bit disorienting to us as new visitors, but we knew we were in good hands. I'd called at10am to confirm that our room would be held for late arrival and at 7pm, the night manager actually called me again on my cell to say he had a great room blocked for us and to assure us that it would be held. Made the last few hours of the ride more secure to know we were headed to a comfy bed.

St Louis was experiencing the worst week of heat in years during our visit and being outside for the festivities was just plain miserable. The hotel did what they could to help people cool off. Just off the lobby, they kept huge ice cold serving jars filled with water with lemon, lime or orange slices and stocked with cups to take a refreshing drink as soon as you escaped inside from the heat. On the third day of our visit, the check in line was extensive as people from several bus tours arrived - these folks love their Cardinals - and the lobby was overrun as they all tried to check in at the same time. Out came a giant rolling cooler with a waitress serving free beer and sodas to the people in line. Kept a lot of weary people a bit happier as they waited.

The lobby area is very large, with a small bar by the entrance, and many comfy chairs and some tables and bar stools. Off to one side is a Starbucks, tiny gift shop, and self-serve yogurt place. Straight ahead and down a few steps is a larger bar with full menu. Off to the right from this is a restaurant where they serve their breakfast buffet in the morning and Imo's pizza in the evening. The breakfast buffet cost $15 and was well-stocked with everything from the typical cereal and eggs, bacon, waffles, sausage and muffins to a large array of fresh fruit. Servers at the buffet were a happy group and were a fun way to regain consciousness in the morning before braving the heat. The Imo's pizza had a very limited pizza menu, with a few subs and great salads. Strange, because the room service menu was from Imo's and had a really large selection that they said wasn't available downstairs.

Our room was an upgrade with a ball park view. During down time we amused ourselves watching the Cardinal's fans trying to find the last few spots and fill the parking lot between the hotel and the ballpark 3-4 hours before the game. Our car was in self parking caddy corner to the hotel at $14 a night - and if we'd wanted to move it during a game, its unlikely we would have found a spot when we returned. We were wondering why people came out so early in the heat to wait in line before the park even opened and then sit in the heat for an hour before the game, but I think the downtown parking situation dictates early arrival. One evening, after we came in early, we had fun ordering room service and watching the game from "left field" while it was tuned in on the tv. Much cooler than the 100 degrees at 9pm in the park.

There were a few downsides to the hotel and in one case, that's where their service shined. They skipped making up our room on our first morning there. When we returned to unmade beds and no fresh towels, we called the desk to request a makeup. It was less than a minute from when we hung up the phone to the knock on the door. We'd made out own beds, but they whisked away our used towels and brought us fresh ones. A few minutes later, the housekeeping manager knocked on the door to apologize and give us a card of apology along with passes to comp us breakfast at the buffet during our stay. Five minutes later, the phone rang with the front desk following up to be sure we'd been taken care of. WOW! A few nights later, a dripping tub was driving us all crazy - a call down stairs brought the maintenance engineer immediately and it was fixed. Again a call from the desk to be sure we were happy. I was tremendously impressed! The next day, the housekeeping manager was making the rounds as we headed out and he asked us if we'd had any additional problems. These people are serious about service!

The one downside to the hotel is the elevator situation. There are 3 to each wing. In the east wing, one is generally reserved for access to the 360 bar, leaving 2 for guests. There are people stationed at the elevators to ensure orderly access. In the west wing, we had 3 elevators as well. During our trip, only 2 were running and there were extensive waits to go down as elevators would arrive full from upper floors. We searched and found the service elevators behind a door marked Staff Only and began using them. They had no AC - but they were much quicker! On the day we checked out another elevator went out of service and they actually posted signs directing guests to the service elevators. There was often a line waiting to go up, but nothing as bad as the east wing elevators.

Between the convenient location, the super-attentive staff, and the clean and comfortable room, I'll definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: You can choose from city view, landmark (the capitol and the arch) or ballpark rooms, but definitely...

Thank you so much for taking the time to review our hotel! We appreciate your time and the depth of your feedback. We do have some struggles with the East Tower elevators, but it's not really as bad as it may seem. When the Cardinals are in town, we are always incredibly booked and the combination of having so many Cardinals fans AND loyal 360 guests, we do see a great deal of volume in the East Tower. It's particularly noticeable in the times leading up to the start of Cardinal games and after Cardinal games as people are coming to and from the Stadium to go to both their rooms and 360. We did have some issues with the elevators in the West Tower issues back in July. However, the West Tower is usually quite immune from the delays that we see in the East Tower. As for the service you received, that's why we're in this business...we certainly strive to create that perfect experience for each and every guest, but when something does goes awry, we most definitely try our best to fix it! And that's why we value these reviews - they help us celebrate the successes, but also improve when things aren't quite right! Thank you again for your feedback and we look forward to your next stay with us!

Charged wrong card for room, so had to call and correct - but only when someone in Billing was there.
Called 3 times for toilet paper (there was only 1 near empty roll provided), noone at Front Desk answered. Had to go down and get toilet paper ourselves. Then later one we had 2 separate visits from housekeeping to bring MORE rolls.
The hotel is perfect for proximity to game and overall not bad, but the bedside manner and overall operations is lacking. Will stay again only for the location.

Room Tip: For the most part, you're coming here for the proximity to the ballpark.

We stayed here on a Friday evening for a St Louis cardinals game. we got there around 1 in the afternoon. Check in was very easy. We were in the west tower which is a walk from the lobby. Elevators in west tower need alot of work. when we made it to the 19th floor and entered are room. It was clean but small, we had a nice view of the Arch and downtown. The bathroom was so small 2 people could not be in there and you had to move to close the door. The shower curtain was dirty and didn't close all the way so water sprayed all of the wall and floor. The bed was the only thing that i liked about the room very comfortable. we got ready to go to there Bar 360 which is on the roof of the east tower. As we approached the lobby again the Line to check in was to the entrance door and the lines to the elevator were wrapped around the lobby. People said they had been waiting 20 minutes for an elevator. We went to the game and came back to there outside bar on the street. They were having a band which was really good but beers were $6. We stayed till midnight when the band quit. The next morning we got up to have breakfast in the hotel. We went to get on the elevator and there was a sign saying we could use service elevators because of the wait. So we walked to the service elevator , lets just say they clean nothing that the public doesn't see. There was a mop sink in the floor that had so much dirt and dust and mold on it. walls hadn't been painted or cleaned in years. When we got done eating still had to wait on elevators about 15 minutes. we packed and headed to valet parking where we had to wait again about 20 minutes. I was not impressed with this hotel or the service.

Room Tip: East tower rooms have view of ballpark on one side. check out the bar 360 it was fun.

Thank you so much for taking the time to review our hotel! We appreciate your time and your feedback. I know exactly which weekend you are referring to when it comes to the West Tower elevators. The East Tower, because of the popularity of 360, can have some congestion on the elevators as so many people use the elevators to go to both the very popular bar and their guest rooms. But the West Tower is usually fairly delay-free. Unfortunately, on this particular weekend, we did have some issues that required us to take a couple of elevators out of service for the safety of our guests. We apologize for the delays you endured while you were with us and we do hope to see you back again. Thank you again for taking the time to review our hotel!

We chose this hotel for the rate we received, the tripadvisor rating and close proximity to Busch Stadium. Check in went well, no waiting, staff very friendly and helpful, chose valet parking because it was just $7 over garage parking and it was 1/2 block away. Plenty of rooms in the east and west(us) towers with 3 elevators for each tower. They have an actual Starbucks inside....yippee

PROS: The room was nicely decorated, 36" flatscreen TV with plenty of HD channels, coffeemaker and real coffee creamer, clean bathroom CONS: small bathroom, like 1 person, toilet lid loose, king bed very unstable so when you move the other person will feel it, no towel bar for towels anywhere?? And I still don't understand why they can't put a fridge or microwave in their king rooms.....cheaper chain hotels do.

Bistro bar- food was good with large portions but fries came out warm not hot, Real good service from Amber but I feel for her, not enough help on a holiday week, she had to take care of all the tables in the Bistro bar but kept cool under pressure. Shame on the manager!! Prices were typical of a big city hotel chain.

I was going to rate the hotel 4 out of 5 but this morning we got ready to head downstairs for the GREAT breakfast buffet and was greeted by a sign stating the 3 elevators were out but we could use the 2 service elevators in the meantime. We waited at least 10 minutes for the elevator to come up and then it was full of employees & travelers and was going up. We ended up walking down 9 flights of stairs to get to the breakfast, had to take the service elevator back up to get our luggage to check out. Management never did compensate us or anyone else for the inconvenience of having to wait or use the stairs....for paying almost $200 a night I think we should of gotten something but as long as they have your money, I guess they don't care.

One more thing, we went upstairs to the 360 lounge 1 night for drinks and to watch the ballbame, was told I couldn't wear a sleeveless shirt because of their dress code, ok, no problem, I went and changed, got upstairs and men and women BOTH had sleeveless on or less. TREAT EVERYONE THE SAME HILTON

So they get a 3 rating now!!

Thank you so much for taking the time to review our hotel! And we are definitely sorry for the lack of consitency with your attire. We can definitely appreciate your frustration in that regard and your concerns will certainly be passed along to 360 management. Sounds like the rest of your stay was enjoyable and we definitely hope to see you again in the future! Thank you again the providing us with your very valuable feedback!

I felt pampered from the time I arrived. My car was parked and all items were moved to my room and I was relaxing before I knew what hit me. The lobby bar and 360 bar were great, and the service was exceptional. The room was clean and comfortable. I will stay here again.

Our room accommodations were great with a good view! Staff was very friendly, attentive and willing to go the extra mile to make us more comfortable. One staff person in particular, LaTasha, was polite, pleasant and was a friendly welcoming face each time we went to the conceirge lounge. Would definitely stay here again.
