Enjoyed my recent one-night stay at this historic house while touring the area. Stayed in the Marie Louise Room on the 2nd floor - nicely furnished, very comfortable, reasonably priced. Janet, the innkeeper, made me feel most welcome. Didn't try out the wine and cheese hour, but breakfast was delicious -- a number of choices, and you make your selection the night before. The second floor kitchenette was a nice addition, with a full-size refrigerator where I could store items from my cooler. The owners have done a simply awesome job of restoring and updating this house, which had been damaged by fire some years ago. It is beautifully furnished and decorated. It would be nice if the first floor had a general use parlor - the dining area and second floor kitchenette seem to be the only spots for that purpose.
Be sure to tour the old houses in Ste. Genevieve, as the town is rich in pre-1800s history -- also check out the cemetery, where many of the original settlers are buried (French inscriptions on the tombstones). However, the dining options in the small downtown historic area are somewhat limited.
Oh, and a couple of small vases of fresh flowers in the room, too. A nice welcoming touch.
