Owner description: Wet a line at one of the Midwest’s premier trout-fishing destinations at Montauk State Park. Located an easy ride from St. Louis, the park’s waters are stocked each night from an on-site hatchery. Want more than day of fishing? Stay overnight at the park’s motel, campground or cabins. Want to do something other than fish? Montauk State Park’s hiking trails will take you in and around the scenic Pigeon Creek basin.

If the food at the lodge was better I'd have given it a higher rating. I always catch fish there, but I've been going for 25 years. I tie my own flies and have had good luck with my own creations...hate the summer there when the kids are out of school and parade up and down the stream.

Montauk is one of our favorite parks to bring the RV and kids. We spend 3 to 4 extended weekends every warm weather season. The scenery is beautiful. We enjoy fishing and catching our limit of Rainbow trout daily. There is several playgrounds for the kids to play. If you are camping, the playground in the campground is between Loops 2 & 3. Be sure to get the flyer listing the events and free education classes offered for the young and young-at-heart. Learn about bears, honey, make your own candle. Tour the hatchery and the mill. Spend the evening making smores on the campfire. No need to bring an alarm clock. The fishing horn/siren that goes off every morning at either 6:30, 7 or 7:30 a.m. (depending on the season) will get you started for the day.

The family time is priceless here. No TVs in the cabins foster more family togetherness playing board games, etc. after the bell rings in the evening. The fishing is great and the scenery is breath taking. The lodge is quaint and the food is really good. They will cook your catch! We come twice a year and will continue to return.
