My first impression when we pulled up was simply beautiful . Things got better from there. We were greeted by two amazing people Gary and Star who welcomed us like long lost friends . They offered to do anything to make checking in and settling in more comfortable . We came there for our honeymoon and were taking photos and Gary offered up his time to take photos for us on our special day . The many things they did that followed made our stay wonderful . The food was great and room was beautiful as was the yard and garden . It was a great piece of history and we look forward to coming back for years to come .

This BB is comprised of 3-4 historic buildings on a nice street, just across from the convention center in downtown Sprngfield. It is an easy walk to the beautiful new baseball park and not far from the college. My room was up a narrow inside staircase from a side entrance of one of the less grand houses. The stair led to two separate rooms, so it was very private and quiet. The room was thoughtfully decorated with interesting antiques and had a totally new large bathroom. It had a mini-fridge generously stocked with water and soda. As a previous reviewer indicated, the carpet is probably getting close to retirement, but mine was freshly shampooed. The staff was great in recommending a restaurant. The linens and towels were good quality and the cleaner was professional. They allowed me to save $ and skip breakfast so I can't comment on that. The dining room in the mail house is very pretty. This is a great concept, with thoughtful staff. It could use some refreshing, but is really a good place. I'd return.

Room Tip: question the staff carefully on room selection. They vary significantly.

First, I must thank Gary for his willingness to work with us as we arrived a full four hours later than we had hoped. Flooding along the highway created a LONG detour. Still when we arrived, our key was waiting for us with a note of welcome. Our suite was beautifully lit and welcoming. We had the O'Neill suite with a hot tub, king bed, desk and full amenities. It was an old, lovely home and quite enchanting. I loved the front porch with the swing. We were tired but not too tired to enjoy the hot tub and slept beautifully. We had breakfast at nine, and Gary worked with our wheat free diets, serving a lovely omelet. We stayed til the last minute and it was hard to leave!

We were fortunate to find Walnut Street Inn as we were passing through Springfield. We had a very lovely room. We appreciated the recommendation of Gilardi's Italian Restaurant which was a short walk from the inn. Breakfast the next morning was delicious. We would stay here again.

My wife and I recently spent the night at the Walnut Street Inn and were disappointed with our stay. It's been about 10 years since we've stayed here and I must say time has not been kind to this once proud grand lady. The carpet in our room was dirty and worn and the outside stairs leading into the house were literally falling apart. The room we slept in had no thermostat in it, so we did not sleep well due to it being extremely hot and not being able to remedy the situation. The service and the breakfast were ok, but overall the entire experience was less than satisfactory.

We stayed one night in the Danzero Room at the Walnut Street Inn as we were passing through Springfield. There are many great features of the inn and the service. We appreciated the e-mail confirmations and reminders in the days preceding our visit. We were able to confirm some of the plans, such as dinner reservations and champagne for our anniversary. I appreciate Gary making our dinner reservation, and I suspect that is why we secured a great table. Our room was in the Carriage House, and it was lovely ... spacious and comfortable. The breakfast was excellent the next morning. The one thing that held me back from providing a five rating is the noise from the upstairs suite. Part of the reason we like to stay at B&Bs is the charm and character, and we stay knowing that historic facilities tend to have some creaks and rattles. The person above was a heavy walker, came in pretty late at night, and the floor creaked. That said, we still enjoyed the stay very much and will stay again if we find ourselves in Springfield again.

Room Tip: Loved the decor & the whirlpool tub of the Danzero Room, but a second floor room in the Carriage...

A great B and B in a gorgeous Victorian house with a location that can't be beat. Every room is immaculate and beautifully decorated - each with a different theme. The breakfasts are impeccable - cooked and presented to a top-notch professional standard. The home-baked cookies that appear as if by magic by the bed at night are a delightful touch. This is no ordinary B and B and kudos to Gary and his team.
